I'm looking for a new monitor, not really looking for anything fancy, just something that would be used for iPlayer rather than gaming but I may want to play a game on it in future so ideally something that's halfway.

My current monitor is 19" and square - so 12 inches top to bottom and plenty big enough for me, I figured a 27" widescreen would about right, not too small and not too big - as it should be around 13 inches top to bottom.

OCUK have this Msi Pro MP272L on offer at just £68,

Are these any good?

I'm a bit sceptical as they seem so cheap these days, even curved ones, some are 100hz and others are 280hz.

That's an absolute bargain, it would make for a fantastic secondary display on a dual monitor setup.

At that price you would have to think it's been sold at a loss, probably the panel started life as a 1080p 122/144hz display but didn't make the grade so they down clocked and repackaged it.

Thanks for the replies :) I'm going to get one,

Not a lot of reviews for them but the ones I've seen so far seem to say its a good buy, there's a few that say the built in speakers aren't very good but I don't use them so no bothers there.

I thought I would have a look on eBay to see if there's any faulty ones to get an idea on whether they have any common faults but there's none on there and there are only 2 brand new ones for sale.

Having just had a look at the specs for my old monitor here, it's apparently 75 - 80hz, should the MSi picture quality be as good that?

I'm sure you'll be happy , let us know how you get on.

Enjoy.

I got one that arrived today, good 1080p monitor and for the price, can't complain.

Just for use with a mini pc.

No speakers I think but only set it up, won't use it much, but nice to have a cheap screen.

Looks like it went from under £70 to under £100 so good timing to get it yesterday :)

Strangely other sellers put it up around the same time too but after a couple of days it dropped back down everywhere again - perhaps they do it when stock is low.

First item I've ever seen on OCUK that says: "Available to UK & IE only due to high demand"

Mine has been delivered to my uncle so I will pick it up when am out that way on Wednesday and see how it goes

Little update...

Really pleased with the monitor for the money.

Picture quality just as good as my old one and sharper when watching a film - though its not so easy to compare as my old one was square.

Things im not to keen on...
1) It doesn't have a surround trim around the screen - so i dont know if it will start to become loose in a few years.
2) The power button (joystick) is on the back.
3) The joystick - when the other half is dusting it won't have a joystick left.
4) It doesn't have a power light.
5) The transformer plug has a power light on it - our tv/hifi runs off the same 6 way surge protector, so when the pc is not in use that poor little power led is always on until we switch the plugs off at night.

These are preferences rather than complaints and none of them are performance related.

In a nutshell it feels like a lot of bang for your buck at £69 - I was dubious of the low price but even if I'd paid the full £99 I would still be happy with it.

Hey there. Little late, but i just got the same monitor and my colours are awful. Blue looks really purple and my red is muddy. Do you mind sharing your settings?

Are you using a HDMI or DP cable?
I haven't changed the settings on mine, plugged it in out the box and left it as it was.
The colours seem fine with a HDMI connection and also a DP connection.
I'll check the settings shortly and attach a photo

Ive had an msi mag monitor before, just a no fuss 24" one. cant remember the name. Im not a particular fan of the little red joystick to navigate, but it was a nice monitor and i did use it for gaming.

While i decided against a Mag for the AOC i got yesterday, they are still nice bargain(budget?) gaming monitors and a lot of sales on currently making them a good buy. I did nearly get the one i saw, but it was 24" and the 27" models look the right size(the AOC is 27) and should be the norm, but for me for gaming and consoles i wanted HDR which they have HDR ready written on them, but mixed customer reviews of it actually displaying it. Even the more expensive mags say HDR Ready.

MSI usually make good quality products too.

@43tt3 here are a few photos taken of the monitor displaying car pictures, the colours of the cars are pretty much as they would be in person, tested with the monitor using a DP cable and then using a HDMI cable and no difference in quality.
