WHY! does no one ever talk Pre Owned ?

I prefer new, but often pick up second hand for getting PC's especially old back up and running.

The second hand shop mentioned can be good, but often they sell modern items for more than you can get it retail. It's just a matter of shopping around.

I'm currently using a case I got years ago on MM for under £20 if I remember, NZXT H500, and two RX 570/580 bought from the mentioned second hand store years ago.

The 5yr guarantee is rather generous, but does it hold up if your GPU or HDD fails.

It's great, provided you understand the risks and are comfortable with them. If it's a seller with good feedback and you can return it, why not assuming it's better value.

CEX needs the warranty as most of their hardware is untested beyond a sniff test.

Also if you do need to send something back, you won't get a replacement unless they have the exact thing still in stock. Instead you'll just get vouchers (for use only in CEX) for its value, even if you paid with cash IIRC.

I've bought 2nd hand from the Members Market in the past for family members. One such example was a i5-3470 mini itx bundle for £115 back in 2017 and it's still going strong. Only issue is my family member wants to change to Win11 so going to look for another 2nd hand deal to provide an upgrade and a bit more oomph.

I think depending on the item a lot of people prefer to buy new for the security of warranty etc but I have no issue buying used, a lot of my system now is a mix of new and used.

mb/mouse/kb/ram/ssd and until recently GPU all used parts, yes you run a certain amount of risk so to speak but there can be some deals to be had.

Yep, for storage I certainly basically only purchase new. But CPU/RAM/Motherboard I don't have any concerns buying 2nd hand if the budget requires it.

I mainly buy new for my own system because I want the latest parts or parts too new to have many 2nd hand available. New parts will fail early so having the returns available is good. For example I bought a release 7090XT and it had the faulty vapour chamber. I'd sold my previous GPU so bought a RTX 4080 FE but that arrived with a dead rear fan! Both sorted by OC and another seller for the FE.

As I regularly build PCs or sell recon systems I always check the B Grade first then the MM. Well looked after quality parts don't tend to fail in my experience.
