Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

Isak adamant he doesn't want to play for Newcastle again. So it's either sell or he rots. Who's going to be more stubborn of the two, Isak or the club.
The lengths Isak is going to when he doesn't really want to leave. All this just to give his agent a pay day!

I suspect this is really only brinksmanship on his part though. If the window closes and he's still at the club then within a month or so he'll be back in the fold.

You do have to wonder how this will affect Liverpools interest. They've always been careful to sign players with residual value in mind and the risk of spending >100m on Isak only for him to come out in 2 years time and say he's never playing for them because he wants a move to Real/Barca must be a concern.

As @BaZ87 says, he'll probably back down, but the same with Garnacho. It seems to be a step too far.

I doubt it will make any difference to Liverpool's interest. We've seen these sorts of stand offs 100 times in the past few years, this is just attracts more attention because it's such a high profile deal. Clubs (nor fans) mind when players kick up a fuss to join them and they'll accept the risk of it happening to them if it means they get their man/save x on the signing. We've just seen Arsenal sign Gyokeres after he reportedly made the same threats to Sporting Lisbon. I can't recall if it ever got this far with VVD but it was a similar situation with him when we signed him from Southampton.

Liverpool will also know the risk of it happening to them is far smaller and they'll be in a stronger position to stand up to the player. For example you mention Real or Barca, well one has no money and the other has no shortage of strikers and has no appetite for paying monster transfer fees these days - the chances of either trying to sign a high profile player from Liverpool, City etc with 2+ years contract is slim at best. Might they try it with 1 year on his deal? Maybe but that's 4-5 years down the line when the player is approaching 30.

Slightly surprised to see Isak being quite so blunt. Surely Newcastle isn't that bad!

Man Utd latest from Ornstein:

Manchester United are continuing to explore whether a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba can be agreed this summer. The talks, taking place via intermediaries on United’s behalf, have so far been to assess his willingness to join and the salary required, plus Brighton’s potential valuation.

Not expected to go for Donnarumma unless Onana leaves, which is unlikely.

I don't see either happening really.

Shame if Donanarumma is a non starter. I think a more traditional GK in the mold of a shot stopper, rather than a footballing goal keeper would suit our back line more.

Baleba is an odd one as no doubt he is a talented player. We are in need of another central midfielder to just well.......balance it be that a deep lying play maker or a disruptor. The ones we have don't really complement each other in this system. Not sure I would be paying £100m+ for him. Maybe with Palace unfortunately getting relegated to the Europa Conference, hold what we got, ride it out and go all in on Wharton next summer.

Agreed, the lack of formal xfer request (and associated costs for him) speaks volumes.
I can't see how his actions to date wouldn't constitute a transfer request from this perspective. Assuming he has such loyalty payments in his deal and they are voided by a request to leave the club then Newcastle will surely have no issue voiding them. I don't think they would though, whether he formally requests to leave or not.

As supporters we're emotional and irrational but clubs will be pragmatic. Newcastle aren't going to add to the situation while he's still your player and a possibility that he'll remain your player. Howe even mentioned the other day that there's not been any disciplinary action taken against the player. It serves Newcastle no benefit. If Isak ends up staying then Newcastle need him back onside as much and quickly as possible and disciplining him won't help with that. And if he does end up leaving then he'll no doubt agree to give up any outstanding payments he's due from Newcastle anyway.

Barca have proved time and again they can find money, I love because your Liverpool you can stand up to the player, but little old Newcastle can’t, as I keep saying he has 3 years on his contract, he will toe the line as soon as the window closes

He probably wants out because he knows that Newcastle arent going to be in the Champions League next season and knows that Eddie Howe will leave as well after the World Cup next year to become the new England Manager :)

They've proven time and time again that they're a basket case and have signed players they couldn't register. They've not, for many years, been able to make a signing even close to the level of signing an Isak though because they can't afford to do so.

And see my above post about emotional and irrational fans. I didn't say Newcastle can't and Liverpool could, I said we'd simply be in a stronger position and whether you want to believe that or not, that's the reality. Not that I believe Isak will refuse to play again for Newcastle (and said as much already) but Liverpool are clearly in a stronger position than Newcastle are to deal with this situation. For a start we've already got top class attacking options where we're not as reliant on the player. He's Newcastle's one superstar and without him or the money from his sale to replace him, you look very short in attack.

We're also in a stronger position in the event a player does end up leaving. We have the financial ability and pull to replace players, something you've struggled with all summer.

I don't dispute that Isak and Liverpool are trying to pressure you into selling the player and or selling him for less than you'd want to sell him for. My point is around this ridiculous suggestion that 'Liverpool's mouthpieces on twitter' have unsettled the player. This is pure nonsense. The media circus we're now seeing is because Isak wants to leave and has been willing to push for the move, not the other way around.
If that’s the case why hasn’t he put in a written transfer request? I will tell you why, doing that means he and his agent give up all the money owed to them to move on, The reason why they haven't is they want the money from us and the move to Liverpool plus money, as I said his agent has pushed most of this, seeing his golden goose moment.
