NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

That sucks donkey balls. I've got a 5090FE and I'm purposefully using the 'octo adapter' that comes with it just in case. If it goes wrong, as it's all Nvidia hardware then there is zero quibbling to be had.
Shouldn't have to think like this or do any of this nonsense though. The power delivery system is clearly a bad design. If more issues like this do indeed start happening then some sort of class action lawsuit definitely needs to happen.
100%. FE using the adapter that came with it on Reddit last week melted....

It would be kind of funny if the melting connector, Which is a fire hazard, Slowly led to Nvidia's downfall XD

@Vito - you said you were undervolting it. Do you mind me asking what you mostly ran at? Were you doing a curve in Afterburner? I've got 4 profiles at the moment from 0.85v up to 0.90v max. And for most games this card is so powerful that 0.85v is more than enough and gives all the grunt I need. Again, shouldn't have to do or think like this though....

Most stable was as I recall 0.95 @ 2950. Was about 500 watts. AB.

So put a Thermal Grizzly WireView Pro on my card (Gig Aorus Waterforce) in May, about a week after getting it so nothing melts....and undervolted, no mods.
What's that smell?
It melted?

Actually cable from psu to it is perfect, so just gpu. Hopefully RMA is fine, not OCs.
I ll also reach out to TG as seems like a decent company.

Well, the 5090 has been a journey...
Need to borrow my sons 4070Ti now for Battlefield Weekend.
Sad to hear. Obviously shouldn't even be a question about worrying about those things but i wonder if the extra connection step added from installing the TG Wireview caused an issue somewhere? Are you on an ATX 3.0 or 3.1 PSU?

The connector stinks nvidia. At least put two connectors on the x90 series cards if you're gonna let 600W be pulled ffs.

Should've just stuck with the 3 x 8 pins, 150w each, Total of 450 watts and an extra 75 from the slot, If they couldn't make do with 525 watts then there's something really wrong.

Even though it's only supposed to be for 150w per cable, each single 8x pin on a modern PSU can technically provide 300w per cable, so 3x of those is 900w plus the slot!. Just look at the current PSU cables, they only use 2x 8x pins to 12VHPWR for the 600w. While a single cable is nice, Nvidia should have just stuck with the 8x pin cable.

Sorry to hear this - hope for a smooth RMA process.

RE the melting adapters, is it make or model specific? Was thinking about purchasing a 5090 but seeing this worries me.

Didn't want to start a whole new thread just to ask this question so I thought I might as well just ask here, I'm looking to possibly grab the gigabyte ice 5090, but with the rumours about Nvidia and aid partners aggressively reducing prices sometime soon I'm wondering if I should bother holding off as we don't know when these so called discounts are gonna come into effect. On top of that I'm wondering if the discounts are going to apply to the halo cards like the astral and such.

What are your guys' best guess as to kind of price cuts that we'll see, if we even see them on 5090's with the release of the super cards?

I highly doubt it with a 5090

So if I'm going to get one I might as well just get one now? I did have a feeling that the "aggressive discounts" Would pretty much apply only to those cards that would be effectively replaced by the super cards, but thought I'd ask either way :D

In my view, yes you might as well if that’s the card you want

Did you notify/RMA with Thermal Grizzly too? Curious to see their response, I really like their products and I enjoy watching Der8auer’s videos. I’m sure he will specifically take a deep interest into investigating this.

Yes, they offered to fix the card. Hopefully RMA company will refund as they have zero 5090s...

Update. So as stated by another member, the company has went into liquidation and administrators can't issue a refund apparently, which is what Im chasing as don't want the same card.
I've reached out to the finance company, but does anyone have experience with this?

Cheers.
('Worst' case I could probably get it fixed replace via Gigabyte/Thermal Grizzly)

Small claims court, but if that company is in administration I don't think you will get anywhere as you will be one of several creditors. Finance company won't do anything. I would just get Thermal Grizzly to sort, I would trust them way more than Gigabyte to sort this issue.

Thanks. Thought there was some protection under the Consumer Credit Act.
Do you think Gigabyte would give me the run around?

I just checked and the 5090FE is finally out of stock. The previous time I checked was during the weekend just gone and it was still there. That means it was available for just over 3 weeks from July 18th until the start of this week.

I'm not sure how the Consumer Credit Act will help, I would assume its there to ensure finance company are not misleading, shady, or dodgy with their customers. I am no expert though, so I can't comment with any authority.

On RMA I think so yes, Gigabyte will blame it on Thermal Grizzly. And if they agreed to exchange the card their QC has been questionable for ages you might in fact get a worse card.
