id like to try gaming on the tv.

TV LG G3 55inch.

laptop Acer Nitro 5.
i7 10750h
Geforce RTX3060
32gig RAM.

looking for recommendations for an HDMI cable. i sit about 8ft from the tv.
do i just plug it in and play or is it more complicated to set it up?
thank you.

Just plug and play for me.

Select PC on the TV as connected device, that's it.

Using a generic 3m HDMI cable off eBay.

Main issue will probably be the latency depending on the TV. Slow games will be OK but fast fps may be noticeable.

Buy any old HDMI cable.

Plug into laptop and TV.

Change TV to correct suace.

You may need to change display settings on laptop by right clicking on desktop > Extend my display.

May also need to click on the TV in that window and click "make this my main display" so that games open on it.

Enjoy :)

I use an app called MonitorSwitcherGUI which lets you set different profiles with your monitors setup correctly. So that you haven't got to faff around with the desktop settings whenever you switch from using the laptop and the TV.

As someone who games on a laptop I've not heard of this but it sounds useful as I switch between desktop monitor and the living room TV occasionally.

I would just make sure the HDMI cable is fairly decent, cheap ones can be funny depending on the Hz. It doesn't have to be expensive, but I would look for an 8k one from Amazon. If you are just using 60hz you'll prob get away with anything but I would still get a slightly better one.

thank you. this was very helpful.

just don't be scammed by the ultra high fidelity gold plated connectors etc. you really don't have to pay much, just make sure it's rated to the level you want (or just get an 8k one,) cheap ones are fine

I've seen fibre optic HDMI cables are recommended to be as sure as you can be you'll get the necessary bandwidth for 4K 120Hz. I've seen some youtube videos about it anyway, saying they can help if you find you have momentary blackouts with a PS5 and the Samsung 95C tv specifically, which appeared to be a thing with that telly. May also apply to a PC connection.
