Documentary about the infiltration and takedown of Encrochat. Only about half way through, but really well put together to tell the story via all the messages and media they they copied, and then linked with real CCTV footage as well as dramatized bits of the their actions so it's easy to follow who is talking to who.

Full series here on 4OD

Just finished this, amazing documentary. Crazy reading all the messages between the criminal gangs.

Mental statistic at the end too saying that in total the Encrochat users arrested are serving more than 14k years in prison.

Watched it when it aired the other week, I knew they'd got in years ago but to see the work involved was surprising, biggest shock was the police officer who had access to all this feeding it to a 'friend'

Number 1 cause of all security breaches : Someone on the inside giving info they shouldn’t to someone on the outside.

Sometimes, Channel 4 does release decent documentaries, this is one of them :) It's a breathe of fresh air, versus the rubbish ones the BBC often release :(
I agree, Channel 4 seem to have a decent collection of docs unlike the BBC. Some episodes of C4's 24 Hours in Police Custody have been quite interesting too.

I read about the Encrochat stuff a few years ago and always wondered if anybody would do a documentary about it, as I was interested in seeing the work involved. Definitely watching this evening after work.

I crave more episodes of 24 Hours in Police Custody :P
I really enjoy that one! I remember one of the episodes being about Encrochat - the one with the campervan business IYKYK? It was pretty good!

Damn, that's a throwback! I remember that episode too. Despite the leader of the gang's annoying usual "no comment" replies in the police interview, later on, when they were telling him that he was being charged for X, you could just see his facial expression said "well I'm ******"

 Yep!
I liked how polite he was as well, as he had nothing against them doing their job, but knew his rights in the interview.

I've really enjoyed 24 Hours in Police Custody and Murder 24/7 on BBC, but having watched the first episode I thought this one was a bit poor and dumbed-down. Too much dramatisation and too many instances of them not being able to go into enough detail.

My favourite 24hrs episode is probably the one where someone got blackmailed after using a prostitute, then the blackmailer turned out to be a DC on the surveillance team being used to catch said blackmailer.

Yeah, Ideally I'd rather real footage, I'm not majorly into dramatizations - which is why I really like 24 Hours in Police Custody, as it's mostly real footage.

Haha, that lady of the night was like something out of a 70's horror movie in person  What a state!
When they walked in the room and rumbled the DC, and he started crying and ******** himself  I've watched that one a few times it's hilarious, and he was surveying his own money drop

I liked the one with the stolen antiques in the basement, including 1, no now it's 2 actually, fireplaces  that wouldn't ever fit up or down those stairs

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the dramatization at first, but they do use a fair bit of real footage as the episodes go on and they identify them and therefore have CCTV / surveillance / bodycam footage.

i think uber had a 1500 pound phone. seems to know about it a bit :D

it ends sorta half done so i guess its half done who knows doesnt even mention most of the bigger people this caught either. not bad watch though.
