Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

I think the issue still is, when to sell.

I've tried setting stop losses or sold when I've reached certain price targets, but watching it blow past those the next day after I sold, literally gave me sleepless nights. I sold 15-20% up, and then it got to 50% up and it annoyed me big time.

For whatever reason, I'm not cut out for single shares. My greed runs rampant and if I hit a big one, I don't really care about it either.

I've found that I don't even blink when the market takes a deep dive on my ETFs, but when it happens on a single ... it bothers me.

I'll just watch all you guys get rich with your pot shots, and I'll limp along in my ETF :D

I can't even be bothered with individual shares. I just lump all my spare change in an S&P 500 and check it now and then. I dabbled in it quite a few times over the years, but could never outperform the S&P, so I just use that instead. I'm probably too stupid for the individual share stuff.

yes big bear earnings was pants and it tanked lol , i did read before that its gone down after most of their results by an average of 14 percent up to 30 percemt see what happens when the big boys wade in tomorrow think black rock and vanguard have an interest ,could have played it better but also worse , time will tell ,
just thinking about getting in at 4.80 should be an interesting day will update with details when i ride this thing out :p

edit nah its 9am not 24/7 it also showed me watching the chart live how brutal the dump is

Anyone know ticker for Contemporary Amperex Technology- tried searching for CATL and (300750.sz) and name and can’t find it. Tried looking in trading account too

Google’s says it’s tradable on T212

Been using Claude and it’s research mode to research picks for me a bit recently. It’s pretty decent at making shortlists to look at.

I was interested in what the ‘next big hype’ in tech might be, after AI, quantum….i asked it to look into companies exploring the frontier between computing and biological systems, DNA as storage, bio-computing etc. Made a watchlist and been tracking a few companies. Bought into Twist Bioscience, a company that make artificial DNA….managed to nail ‘a’ bottom at least as it’s bounced nicely. Obviously super volatile these things, but worth a punt. Trying to spread out across more equities across broader industries, despite some of my YOLO trades doing well recently, I should really stop it :P

I do think the US is going to see a big correction in the next year, so trying to explore more options in more developing countries, but just at researching stage atm.

Question - I've got a few quid in iShares S&P 500 on T212.

Does this pay dividends? I'm struggling to find a straight answer and would like to know before putting more cash in (I've only been in about two months so likely haven't hit the dividends payout yet).

Cheers :)

If you are talking about IUSA then yes it pays dividends.

March / June / Sept / Dec are the months it pays out.

Hope that helps. The website Just ETF has loads of information, with previous dividend history etc.

The website dividenddata.co.uk has a dividend calculator for etf/stocks. Where you can put in how many you own and it will tell you what you will get as a dividend. (IUSA - Dividend wont be announced until early September.)

Great interim results by aviva.
Profit 22 percent.
Basically every metric is up. Only thing holding it back is the general UK economy I think.

But in some ways it's helping. Lack of state pension and dying NHS are increasing private pensions and health insurance

Over 1/8th of my isa so always important to keep a close eye on this one

yes - their IFA/Adviser platform has increase inflows and done well also...

Ugly price rise data from the US has pulled the market red, market open will be a bit rough. Makes a rate cut less likely in Sept, which will be even rougher.

I'm surprised it's taken this long.
I don't know about USA apart from the inevitable inflation due to tariff games.

But in UK jobs data is bad. Vacancies is bad. Tax rises are on the cards. Inflation is looking like going up... Yet ftse hits a record high.

There must be decline coming soon.
