Alien TV series (Alien Earth) : 2025

I always thought the black goo was always part of the lore/plot - In that it was engineered to try to infuse with humans to help long space travel but.... things went sideways.

It was introduced with Prometheus and had little to nothing to do with anything prior, was a big point of contention to boot.

I was big into the prior lore as a teen, bought all the books etc on top of the movies.

Scott is a bit of a spiteful bugger too, didn't like the "Alien Queen" idea that Cameron introduced in the sequel, even though it's the most sensible possible consideration to a huge ant like alien hive and was flat out awesome.

I've enjoyed Prometheus and Covenant mainly as I quite like the black goo side of the story, it's added an additional layer to the story for me, and also seems to fit with the original story with first film's space jockey etc.

Only watched the first episode but it looks decent so far.

Not sure about the enhanced synthetics, when she drops from the cliff onto beach, it just wasn't believable tbh.

But it is a synthetic, It's not because she's a women either, terminator series did this many years ago. I just don't recall seeing synthetics like this in the Alien films. yes, they were stronger, but nothing like this.

That is my understanding also. Personally I'd prefer the canon to be closer to the original Dark Horse comics timeline than anything Prometheus related.

For those that haven't watched it yet.

I've watched the first episode. The cliff jump wasn't believable. I guess it's to show how tough the synths are when they go up against the Alien.

I couldn't work out whether Kirsh was for or against the Synths. One minute he seems paternal, the other rude and nasty.

Putting the kids into the adult bodies then sending them to the crash site - for the lols - seemed a bit silly. I'm hoping it doesen't set this up for a pseudo super hero team Vs Alien.

I hope they make more use of the ship interior. That was great seeing a rebuilt Nostromo style interior. I'd be happy with a film covering the events up to the crash tbh.

I'll keep watching but not yet convinced.

It was OK. I didn't really enjoy the merging/overlaying different scenes on top of each other, nor the flashes of ultra violence when seeing the ship crew before the crash. Follows the same basic setup as all the films, if the 1st two episodes are anything to go by.

I like the idea of Synths vs Aliens fighting, but not really sure about the whole, we put kids in adult bodies and they need to learn to control their emotions crap. Also hope it doesn't go too much into the we created an AI we can't control, which is covered in so many films these days....

Still solid 7/10 start.

I thought the first 2 episodes were excellent, and looking forward to the rest of the series. It keeps the atmosphere of the originals, brings a few new twists in with the Synths. I get why people don't like them being kids, but I don't mind it, and it fits well with the lore and technology.

Solid 8/10. More please.

A good start, not flawless but interesting setup and very good production. The use of a flight sim throttle as a scientific console lever was a bit off, looks wise :p.

Isn't there mention of issues with synthetics having 'issues' in Aliens, which explains why later models are restricted in capabilities. This is set before and is a corporate arms race that will probably have serious consequences.

First two epsiodes very strong. These days I always expect some character to annoy the snot out of me - refreshing to not have that issue, so far.

Ade Edmonson is an excellent casting.

The key thing for me, is that for an Alien tv show, this is very very good. We've all seen tv show versions of movies and how much of a **** up they normally are, so I think they've done really well here. Hoping it doesnt end up being a single season and then axed thing like so many streaming shows

Seen both episodes now and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve only seen Sydney Chandler in Pistol, not that she’s been in much looking at her TV/film resume, and I liked her in that. I think she’s doing a good job of acting like she has the mind of a pre teen in an adult body, in fact I think the actors playing the adult/kids are all doing a decent job.

6/10 for both episodes for me so far. They’ve nailed the look and feel of the original, and I love some of the little sound bites from other movies.

Two bits that has stuck out that I didn’t particularly like. The gore levels, seems out of place for what we’ve come to know in previous films. The alien itself just looks odd, I know it’s a man in a suit, but I think that’s its issue and you can tell at times and it sticks out.

Looks the part, but somewhat weak sauce so far.
Get the attempt at world-building, but it's mostly tiresome stuff across the two episodes so far, some of which suffers from just flat out terrible creative choices. As said, the aesthetic is there though too heavily pushed to the fore, especially in the first episode, but the willingness to show the xenomorph so abruptly shows up an overall lack of polish in sequences and arguably the show may have been better off limiting these appearances, and possibly the whole 'Alien' vibe overall and instead concentrate on pushing a narrative around the characters they're trying to develop.
Surprised at the positivity given the opening salvo IMO, so I can only assume it finds it's feet more solidly in the remaining episodes to justify the position. Ultimately the show will have to justify its existence first and foremost to be considered worth the investment.

He better be beating an Alien about the head with a frying pan!
