Hi All

i'm going for a company car. I have a limit of £600 for a 36 month deal, 3 months up front, with maintenance. 10,000 miles a year is probably ok, but id like to push it to 12,000 if poss.

After discounting all the cars that are too small, too expensive, too stupid in design, too boring etc i had come down to the polestar 2. I like the look. The dual motor is nice and quick, the "pro" pack loses the stupid hub caps in favour of some OK looking wheels (but awesome by 2025 standards). interior looks good in the videos and photos. and can be ordered with the bowers and wilkins audio, which should sound ok (though still not as good as a proper install).

The IONIQ 5N was originally out of budget, but its now in budget. there must have been a drop in price or something. I like the look from the outside. Its bonkers fast, interior looks meh, audio is rubbish. does have actual buttons though.

Polestar test drive is an hours drive away. Hyundai is probably closer, assuming they have an N.

ive tried to get some comparisons online, but it depends on which forum you are on as to which is best.

both get good reviews, but they often dont say what they are like to live with.

Anyone own either? or driven both?

They are two totally different vehicles, how have you narrowed it down to those, purely on price? I am a big fan on the normal Ioniq5, and the N is designed for people that want to make an SUV into some sort of 'hot SUV' seems like total overkill though really. Polestar are a solid choice, nothing stands out about them, but that is Volvo all around really.

is this a PCH/BCH from the business or a car allowance/salary sacrifice?

BCH from the company.

They are both fast suv/hatch of similar sizes, so not exactly completely different cars. Different buyers i suppose, but im considering both and I cant be the first one ever to consider these two cars.

The budget is 600 a month with the specifics above. That rules out everything german pretty much, id like some performance, so that rules out all the slow stuff. I want decent audio, which is why the polstar appeals.

I also have to like how it looks. It not simply a tool. This is subjective. I dont like the design of many modern cars. I quite like these two

[ Mercedes CLA is not yet on the list ?]
I wasn't aware there was an electric cla. Looks nice actually. Is it out yet?

I didnt specify above but it needs to be an EV or plug in hybrid. It doesn't make sense to get anything else as a company car anyway

What are you coming from to consider fast? I ask as lots of folk get out a a slow laggy (what they think is responsive) ICE car, and into an instant torque/power BEV and the 'slow' ones are fast to them. Are you looking only at 0-62 MPH times for being fast, as most certainly the top speed is not high in most BEV's.

£600 on a BCH there are loads of options, BMW i4 Gran Coupe 250kW eDrive40 M Sport 83.9kWh [Pro Pack] - £453 per month, with nothing upfront on 1+35. 10k PA, no maintenance, but IMO that is a waste of time with an EV as for the i4 it is/was 2 years 24k miles, and unless you are ragging the tyre life there will be no a lot of benefit.
Not sure what else you are looking at German, CLA is ~£600 on similar terms.

The polestar 2 will have better range but I found the interior a bit cramped although it was very well put together. The 5N is a different beast, faster more toys with respect to driving, more room, can make brum brum noises and can also simulate a gear box with shifting done by the paddles. Even though it has a shorter range it chargers far quicker as its on 800v architecture.

By all accounts the 5N will be the more fun car but if you are not on country roads and just cruising up and down motorways all days then take the one you’ll be more comfortable in

Having said that the charging speed people have mentioned above is a factor if you do long days

i think the polestar will be the better overall package for me. I like the look of the 5N, (less so the regular 5, stupid wheels) so thats what draws me in. the fake gear changes might be fun for a while, but id want it quiet and easy most of the time. Both the 5N and the polstar dual motor are fast enough for me. i wouldnt really benefit from the extra performance of the 5N. I test drove the Tesla model 3 performance and it was loads of fun. so about that sort of performance is good. The polestar is close enough.

Almost all my charging will be at home. If i'm out and about for work, i'll have no issue stopping for a charge, If i have to sit for a couple of coffees, no drama.

I'm about 5ft 8, so i think i'll be ok. I'll find a used one nearby to go and have a sit in, but i dont think it will be an issue.

Hyundai is quite noisy generally, road noise etc is poor, interior is budget, good drive though, P4 will feel a lot more premium. (should note that is an assumption based on the rest of the Polestar range I have driven, never tried a P4)

EDIT - Doh just noticed it said P2, these are fine, just small.

5N is probably overkill for your needs, as it's supposedly a "proper" sports car, if you can call a 2.5 tonne EV such a thing :p
Polestar is a Volvo, so fast enough but no drama. Probably more up your street?

I own an IONIQ 5N, previously driving a twin turbo petrol Beamer. I absolutely love the thing it’s incredible to drive a lot of fun for an EV.

You can get 240-250 miles out of it if you drive Evo on long journeys, but let’s be real it’s in sport 24/7.

Interior is not budget it’s pretty good, there is some weight saving on the car in places using plastic but it’s genuinely a high standard of finish.

I was going to say, I'd have taken the 5N over the polestar in a heartbeat.. I've driven one, loved it, the entire premise seems stupid on paper, but it's just a load of fun, a proper petrol heads EV.. what's not to like?

The 5N is great, but I wouldn't want it as a motorway muncher, the suspension is a bit firm.

You can't make use of that power on UK roads anyway, and the polestar 2 is plenty fast. I'd go with the Polestar.
