This Instant And Moment - 2025!

9 is highest (best) grade.

Using that type of grading, it's easy to add in higher grades over time to deal with grade inflation.

Oh, for norm based referencing..

When I did mine (1968, O level) 1 was highest 6 just a pass and not sure it went to 9. My highest was maths grade 2

That's why they inverted the grading scale- so additional top end scores could be added when required.

This sort of grading is based on grade boundaries when you hit a particular percentage/score. It is an absolute nightmare working out what an A or B should look like in geography, for example. They also have to, in theory, make grades comparable with previous cohorts' scores and difficulty. This method not dependent on your "rank" within those taking the test.

The old o-level system worked on norm-based referencing, where the top 10% got an A grade, the next 20% got a B and so on. That works well for ranking entrants, but means in theory a low scoring candidate could get an A if everyone does badly that year. It's a particular issue with low entry exams.

I have 3 more weeks left of my notice period (4 if I don't take remaining holiday).

There is no new person to handover to, so it's been a slog of process notes. I expect to finish these by Tuesday next week.

I've tried negotiating leaving 1-2 weeks earlier, and will provide 5 hours video call handover per week, but they aren't having any of it :(

So tempted to just self-certificate the final week, I'm so ready for the next chapter of my life in Thailand and I'm being kept on 'in case we have questions for you'. The next 3 weeks are going to be boring.

This kicked off what is going to be a glorious weekend.

Friday - wild swim at the beach watching the sun set. Tick!
Saturday - sea kayak somewhere on the gower peninsula
Sunday - hike and wild swim in one of the inland rivers/pools/lakes.

All household jobs are secondary this weekend!

Me and the wife sat in bed when we realised there is a Giant House Spider sat on our curtain watching us :( after working out what to do, my wife grabbed a jug and put it over him, then she launches the jug out of the window thinking the monster is inside it, only to realise he's still sat there :p she then managed to get rid of him but my god I've never seen anything so big in the house :p

Another geeky evening spent moving all my data off my NVMe drive onto a HDD so that I can wipe it and install Linux in the morning as my primary OS. Eeeek. Looks I'm going with Mint as I'm hoping it will cope better with my nVidia GPU. I actually feel quite excited.

I've just gone over to Linux Mint. Bit faffy but nothing too bad.

I’ve chipped (that’ll probably lead to it breaking entirely) my 3rd crown, it’s been less than a year :(

Another £500 down the drain, so annoying. He’ll probably want to take the tooth out this time, it’s right at the back anyway.

Dunno if it is just me but I find it kind of weird when you randomly run into a comment on YouTube on a random video by someone you know - well sort of know I worked with them years ago and they also have/had an account on here.

I remember one brown house spider, massive, on the bedroom floor. Put a pint glass over it and it was rearing up in a defence posture. Could hear chink sounds as its fangs were hitting the glass. Its leg span was the diameter of the glass. Card underneath and out the window. Now I wear gloves when moving stuff in the garage.. after moving some paving slabs, there was a couple of large shiny black looking widow like spiders. Too a video but I suspect that would have to have a trigger warning :D

They scare the **** out of me, I really don't know how people just pick them up and take them out, ummmm yeah the video would trigger me :p

Id love to overcome the fear but never will

Just polished off a whole container of sweet and sour pork. I approach each meal as potentially my last as one of them will be! :D

I’m going to try to see the dentist this week. I’m out of ideas though. Do we try crown number 4? Take the tooth out? May even be time for a new dentist, he seems out of ideas himself. Despite it now having a hole in he’ll no doubt want to leave it to break off naturally. I’m getting tired of paying in full for it too.

Mrs is already packing for our canaries holiday next month, with everyone's favourite airline, Jess Glynne airways.

DARLING HOLD MY HAND;)

That's screaming out for a few days before you leave she asks did we pack this? And you'll have empty the suitcase cos you've forgot that you had packed it since packing a month early is ridiculous!
