Hi All,

Recently I've got back into VR and with the way my system struggles with some VR titles I'm considering an upgrade. 4 years ago this was roughly £2000 as a new build, but hopefully I wont have to replace too much...

I generally experience instability and some screen tearing with the VR titles, and then streaming any recent games higher than medium settings causes the stream to drop frames. Thanks in advance for the tips!

Could you wait for the rumoured 5080 Super? I wouldn't be keen on dumping £1K on the 16GB version.
Yeah I'm happy to wait for the rumoured 5080 Super, is there anything else you would consider altering? Will I need a new PSU for the graphics card if it spikes?

Possibly, but it is not something I'd replace unless very old, or you have problems.

You could upgrade to something like a 10800X3D (or whatever the name will be), a 9800X3D or 265K, but it is hard to say if you NEED that. You could always get the graphics card first and then see how it goes.

Hi and welcome.

Download MSI Afterburner and monitor CPU, GPU, memory usage to see if any are being maxed.
So i did as advised and generally my CPU is jumping between 800MHz and 4800MHz for its Active Clock but 200 - 300 MHz for its Effective Clock... Doesn't make any sense to me. I've also encountered a few dropped frames on games I wouldnt normally and even had it freeze to blue screen and restart a few times recently.

Edit: It also seems that my RAM is regularly hitting 17000MB of 32000MB

Just done a more in depth test using Blade and Sorcery, During regular gameplay I'm peaking to 60% GPU usage but during loading and intensive battles with multiple combatants, I'm seeing GPU usage maxing out at 100%. CPU usage meanwhile peaks to about 75/80% tops with temperatures between 60 - 80 C. Memory usage averages between 40% and 70% so isn't a concern to me.

Consensus is to wait for the 5080 Super and worry about the rest in 2-5 years time

Probably the lack of vram on the 3080 is the issue while the 5080 will give 16gb and has multi frame gen . Xmas is the supposedly release of the super according to Tweaktown and with 24gb if vram, so if you can hold till then it's would be wise to .

we have a VR section worth checking out, its not just for hardware but general discussion, news & games ect.
be worth mentioning what other titles your struggling with.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 isnt really a slouch but the VRAM will be a problem if playing at high res obviously.
