5080 & 5090 Coil Whine Thread

Hi chaps - long time no post from me (in here anyway) *waves*

Well, I have solved my 5090 coil whine problem at last

After returning a Suprim, an Astral, an Aorus Master and a Palit Mirror Infinity, I finally settled on a MSI Gaming Trio. Still a bit noisy with the fans, so I water blocked it… this is the way for temps.

I still wasn’t satisfied with the overall noise though and, lo and behold the solution is… a pair of Apple AirPod Max. These are aggressively expensive and due a product refresh but the noise cancelling is the absolute ****. It’s like god himself installed himself into the AirPods and said “all noise, be gone!!!” - far superior to my Momentum 4 headphones.

It’s almost supernatural - I can sit next to my machine with it blaring whine and fans over 1000 rpm and I can’t even hear it.

I can actually sit there and enjoy a game. It know it sounds a bit sad, but I almost cried when I realised the struggle was over.

So for anyone else distraught - this is a real solution to the problem.

Currently running the card overclocked with a 350hz boost, nicely hitting 3100-3200. Temps at low 50s degrees, can’t hear it. Winning
Yes whatever Apple is doing is sorcery. Even with the AirPod pros their noise cancellation is excellent, serves me well on flights or the tube. Congrats on kissing the right frog too and settling with your prince(ss) ;)

tbf he could have moved the pc away from right next to him, i imagine a lot of these people moaning about coil whine have the pc on their desk right next to their face as they game :P put it under the desk or away to the side instead, cables are long or can get longer cables :P

I had already tried moving my pc to all sorts locations in the room and deployed all sorts of strategies, including acoustic padding, but no ‘luck’ with that.

The only thing I didn’t try was putting the PC in another room and connecting it through a wall, which would be good but not possible due to house layout… not particularly practical either!

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m very sensitive to noise, but these cards are obscenely / unreasonably noisy IMO.

OT, but did you try the Sony XM6s before settling on the APMs? I’m in in-ear guy, but the AirPod Pros have much better noise cancelling (particularly on the tube!) verus my Sony in-ear XM4s, so i can imagine how good APMs are.

I have only tried an earlier version of the Sonys - the ear cups were relatively small so they got hot for me immediately, which puts them in the no pile for me. The AirPod Max has much, much bigger ear cups.

Guys? Anyone with AORUS XTREME Waterfroce RTX 5090 AIO? Is it normal to hit almost 80 °C in FurMark after 10 minutes? That seems pretty high for an AIO card. Did I get a bad unit?
In the photo you can see 77 °C, but it went up to around 80 °C.

Think your fan should be 100% for FurMark. But how is it in a gaming scenario? Will rarely hit 600w. Gaming I was 55 ish until it melted...

Yes, that’s true. But it probably wasn’t the card. In my opinion, if you had a new 12V-2x6 cable to the PSU, this probably wouldn’t have happened. These 3rd-party connectors are trouble.

Nope, defo the connector on the cards. Examples of every scenario of connection melting on different cards apart from Astral, which I now have to monitor the pin connector.

What probably happened is increased resistance on the Thermal Grizzly connector pins. That creates extra heat under load, and once the plastic housing softens, the whole connector starts to burn. The GPU itself isn’t the root cause — it’s the adapter adding another failure point.
Regarding those burned connector cases, the users were using used 12V-2x6 cables.

Nope the pins out TG were cooler than the pins going in. The gpu connector design is the problem.
Good luck running fur mark on it at 80 Celsius. Keep an eye on the cable .
Are you testing an overclock stability?

Not yet, and I’ll probably return it, because a user on Reddit who has the Xtreme Waterforce sent me his results, and his temps in FurMark were at most 70 °C with the same fan speeds. I might return mine and buy it again.

However, how long did you own the Xtreme Waterforce?
