I couldn't find another thread like this, or at least not recently. Thought it might be helpful if anyone can be bothered as I often find many films don't make very good use of surround, so I'm always interested to hear what movies are good for it.

A few that have stood out for me:

Mad Max: Fury Road
The beginning in particular is good for showcasing surround.

Jurassic World Dominion
This one took me by surprise and it didn't just throw stuff to the surround channels, but did it with the correct orientation/positioning.

Great channel positioning and sweeps.

Black Hawk Down
Goes without saying.

Tron Legacy
It will give your entire system a good work out. There is always something going on (sound wise) in even the quietest moments. Probably one of my top choices I reach for if I've made changes somewhere and want to test.

Top Gun: Maverick
Another Joseph Kosinski film. You can pretty much copy and paste my comments above.

Apollo 13
The blast off is simply an awesome piece of cinema.

Great panning effects. The steering of dialogue at the beginning is a great test of tonal matching for your speakers.

Dolby Audiosphere Headphone Demo
Although this one is designed for headphones, it also creates an incredibly immersive sound field as the notes flow seamlessly around the whole room.

There are a lot more, but I'll add them at a more sensible hour! :)

Top Gun Maverick:
Every trick in the ATMOS book was played in this, a lesson in how it should be done.

mavity:
A master class in DTS 5'1 used with great care to placement, a very real aural experience

Hacksaw Ridge:
The battle scenes in this are astounding in Dolby Atmos, but in DTS 5.1 they have even more "weight" to them. Everything is happening so fast it's as if you are there.

Pacific Rim:
My first experience of Dolby Atmos and what an experience. Even if you have a basic subwoofer, this will lift your floorboards up.

Le Mans 66:
This just delivers Dolby Atmos at it's best. Subtle where it needs to be but very full on where it absolutely needs to be as well.

Apocalypse Now

A couple more...

Ready Player One
The 1st race near the beginning is an absolute reference track, from each individual coin bouncing around the surrounds to Kong crashing his way around the room.

Oblivion
Another great track. Has some great atmospheric moments in the quiet parts, such as when he discovers the decoy drone after roping down into the hole. Great use of panning in the louder sections too, such as when he arrives to repair the first drone in the stadium and when he arrives to discover the re-entry crash site.

Going back a bit now but when I got my first surround sound setup, I thought Band of Brothers series was great in places.
Of course, largely explosions and bullets, ricochets etc.

These 2 are both Bluray and both 5.1 DTS. The Skynyrd one is particularly good when you keep in mind it was filmed and recorded in 1976. To remaster that in 5.1 DTS was a considerable work of art in it's own right.
Sade..........................what can i say......................it's Sade, it's gorgeous.
