Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

Ramsey has been announced. Very happy with that. Thought our chances of signing him had gone out the window after Villa sold their woman’s team!!

Just because we’ve got a massive Swedish Rat doesn’t mean you change your plans.
Seems we’re happy to wait on Wissa.

Isak will sort its self out. If Isak goes there be plenty of cash in the kitty to buy a striker to help share the burden with Wissa.
Who though? This isn't meant to be antagonistic, but there seems to be a real shortage of quality strikers about since the latest crop were snapped up.

While Isak is obviously a great player I'm utterly indifferent whether we sign him or not

we can spend the money better on our squad, not keen on the way it's all happening (though maybe we don't know everything)

I'm sure he will be brilliant but we can improve in other areas much more for that sort of money

We are light upfront now though, Doak is off, Elliot will probably leave, so we do need another attacker, as when Salah leaves for Afcon, we will be short big time.

Guehi and a forward, and we should be good to go. DM would be nice but lets not get too greedy.

He's not "all that".

So yeh, probs done well for saving the cash.

Doak never played and elliott hardly got game time (360 minutes in the league last year)

Bit left field, but I'm just catching up on Motd from yesterday. I'd take Bowen if we can get a decent deal for him. Makes things happen, can play wide or through the middle, and wouldn't cost what Isak would.

After the match on Friday I think we're moving to a 4-4-2 diamond. We ended up in that system a lot during the game, with Salah moving higher up the pitch alongside Ekitike as split forwards and Gakpo moving back into the left sided midfield role. It wasn't an entirely evenly balanced diamond in terms of how we attacked down each flank, with Gakpo getting further forward (and wider) on the left but with Kerkez not getting forward as much from LB and then down the right Frimpong would get forward more with Szoboszlai being a bit deeper and narrower.

If that's a sign of things to come then maybe we don't need two more forwards. Salah, Ekitike, Chiesa + another striker for the two forward positions is probably enough, especially with Gakpo doubling up as an option there + in the midfield.

A 4-4-2 diamond would explain why we've moved for both Isak and Ekitike and makes more sense of the whole Frimpong, Wirtz, Szoboszlai & Salah situation that I was struggling to get my head around earlier in the summer. Szobo (or another) provides the defensive cover for Salah/Frimpong down the right, while still having Wirtz in the number 10 role.

I've been thinking exactly the same thing. It makes a lot of sense with our current squad. Both full backs are going to bomb on, and Wirtz won't do the defensive work that Szoboszlai did in that role, so we need three "proper" midfielders in there with Wirtz ahead of them. The only way to do that, really, is a 4-1-2-1-2.

If that's the case, I think it makes the need for a proper DM even more important. Otherwise we're looking at Grav, Macca, Jones, Endo, Dom and (possibly) Elliott for the midfield roles. And Grav aside, I don't want to see any of them at DM for too long.

I agree to an extent but as I said, on Friday it wasn't a basic 4-4-2 diamond. It was a bit of a hybrid system with Gakpo making it a 4-2-1-3 in attack and a 4-1-2-1-2 in defence. Kerkez wasn't getting forward nearly as much as Frimpong was and I'm sure that was by design because of Gakpo being ahead of him.

I don't think we want and out and out defensive midfielder. I think they want a passer in the deepest midfield role and I could be completely wrong but I've convinced myself that we're lining up Wharton for next summer because Palace won't deal this year.
Yeah we aren't switching to a 442, or any variant of
Except we did regularly on Friday:

Nvm. I'm not getting into a pointless discussion based on an acreenshot of an out of possession press.
