£3-3.5K 5090 Advice Needed

whats the best psu for a 5080 still 1200W I have or can reduce it?
You can run one on 850, up to you. The price difference isn't massive for that model, compared to potential future utility if you go mega on the card later.

If you can wait for the 5080 Super, I would, since if it has the extra VRAM that could be very useful, especially if you progress to 4K at some point.

so remove the arctic aio & add a Dark rock 5

I threw that in just because i was talking about my daughter's build (and all my builds). But, i do stand by my comment - quality air coolers keep your CPU cool, silent and have less points of failure. That said, each to his own - if you like the look of AIOs/lights etc in your system - pick that which makes you happy. It's should be a quality looking system whatever you decide.

The Antec is quality PSU with 10 year warranty - you could save money and get the 1000W version or even a 850. That said, as you've dropped to the 5080 you could cut yourself some slack, for the sake of £50, and get the 1200W - for the sake of your future 4K GPU upgrade...

AIO cooler might change due to Mickys comment about 27/38mm fans need to figure that out
Radiator thickness.

Fans are usually 25mm thick.

Can to see yourself needing usb 4 in the future ? if the answer is yes then you should consider an x870 motherboard.

Not to downgrade it again but I thought the 5080 was the worst of the bunch and if running 1440p then the 5070ti was the sensible option.

Haha I love this theres always sound logic for every component!!

I will check out the 5070ti and see whats going on there thanks I will also look at the x870 situation. Ideally the more usb the better!

The 5070 Ti is better value £ per frame, but the extra 15% on the 5080 can make a difference at higher resolutions. I think the Super versions are supposed to have both been upgraded to 24GB.

Hehe, it is sound advice - and i did consider mentioning the 5070Ti originally but figured you wouldn't swallow a 2 tier drop in one hit. But, the argument for the 5080 makes sense with your budget, especially when dropping from a 5090.

The bang for buck is better for the 5070Ti. The xx70Tis have been my go to card when released (1440p setup but rarely game anymore). That said, i agree with @Tetras, with your excess budget the 15% will prove itself at higher settings and yet technically you have still managed to save £900 not buying the 5090.

*Persuading a forum member to downgrade is an incremental process, plus you don't want to spoil their experience by totally picking their build to pieces. But, you've accepted your GPU drop surprisingly well.

OP playing a 1440p though...5070ti makes far better sense to me. dropping a GRAND for a 16gb vram card that's only 15% faster than a £650-700 makes no sense to me.....totally agree if you're going down 5080 route at least wait for the 24gb vram cards (though 5070ti super meant to have that too) though if 16gb isnt enough for 1440 gaming, a lot of people are going o be in trouble

Worth noting I have been editing just as much if not more than gaming the last few months even installed the Studio Nvidia drivers to try and boost my issues so not sure how that effects the 5070ti/5080 comparison....

but getting closer....

I'm happy to go 5080 in total around £2320 from various sites (edited prices in the list sorry for any confusion)

Happy with this case - will be a smidge snug but I think ticks all the boxes without getting the hacksaw out...

Will keep the 1200W I have no problem with that

The X870 Tomahawk MSI MAG looks a very nice mobo lots of usb slots - I can exchange if someone can give me a reason to do so!?

How are we looking!?

If deciding to go with air and you like the be-quiet aesthetic - you may want to consider the be quiet Elite for the 9800X3D (my daughter is running a 7800X3D on her b650). I'm sure the be quiet 5 vanilla would keep the 9800 cool (marginally higher standard voltage) - but the x2 bigger fans coupled with double tower would ensure it's whisper quiet. But, be warned they're huuuge!!!

*You should be aware there are heatsink/fans that perform just as well at a lower prices - but I will let you digest the above first (although they may not fit in with your all black aesthetic).

I'll try and find examples of the be quiet...

@Gray2233 has singled out the best one's - so now start digesting yet more possible changes...

ahh 1 step closer 2 steps back but all good :)

internal aesthetics I don't care about tbh the parts just happen to be black it could be pink with green polka dots for all I care its never going to be looked at once settled!

I also have no preference for air or AIO I will honestly just use what is recommended to me! generally whatever's the coolest & quietist

Well, I'm biased - i prefer air for reasons stated - less points of failure and arguably quieter if you get a noisy pump.

If you're not concerned about looks the Spirit will do the job at half the price of be-quiet and your AIO.

*Same warning applies - still huuuge!!!

EDIT: You may want to add an extra 140mm intake fan for the front of that case. I think it has a vented mesh top(?) so you could run the dual intake fans slower, more air spread across components but slower curve - quiet.

Go for a 5070TI if you need to buy now. then sell it and upgrade to a 5080 Ti Super if prices are good, Otherwise wait for a 6090. I was looking at getting a 5080 myself but the value for money is terrible and I'll just kick myself when the new models come out.

The Fractal meshify compact 2 has slightly better airflow with it's mesh front.
my current is the first Meshify compact Maybe I should just strip it and use it again!?

still tempted to get this bad boy aswell

It's a good case, and if it ain't broke don't fix it, unless you want a change for aesthetics or the GPU flat out wont fit.

Would save you a good chunk you could put elsewhere into the build, I recommended the old Meshify cases a lot back in the day.
