Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

Isak has spoken. He's just put something on Instagram following his inclusion in the PFA team of the season. He says the club have broken promises made to him, that they've known about his desire to leave for a long time, that the relationship can't continue and it's best for everybody if he leaves. #freeisak
I’m all for letting the **** rot now

Out of interest, what if he's telling the truth re broken promises and the club knowing his desire to leave for a long time? I am just playing devils advocate here but numerous Newcastle fans (maybe yourself too?) have commented on the contract situation and how he was promised a new deal then the club backed out.

Newcastle need to let him go, I actually think forcing him to stay is making them look weak. Definitely demand a bit more £ from Liverpool though…

The broken promise to him was from the guy that’s now had the tic-tac, we have apparently tried to give him a new contract with a release clause, and yes I have commented on the contract situation, yet there has still No official transfer request - so he’s still not willing to put his money where his mouth is.

He can hand in a transfer request.

Then Liverpool can actually put up or publicly **** right off.

I'm not really sure what difference you think the transfer request will make? As I said before, surely if he does have any kind of loyalty payments in his deal (and that they are invalidated by a transfer request) then this statement and all that's gone on will be enough for Newcastle to successfully argue that he's requested to leave. And how much do you think these payments could be worth? I'd be amazed if it was more than £500k and if he does move to us he'll be pocketing several million in a signing on fee and probably circa £400k per week wages. I'm not sure he'll be that arsed tbh.

I may be mistaken, but afaik if a club decides to sell a player without a transfer request they are liable to all signing on payments agreed over the life of the contract and are also liable to pay up some of the remaining contract 3 years @ £120k a week. If that’s correct, that’s a hell of a lot more than £500k

Thing is Isak & Newcastle are both in the wrong for parts.

If promise is true then of course Newcastle shouldn’t of done that if never had intention of letting him go (entirely avoidable if release clauses are there)

Isak should least train with team mates etc they haven’t done wrong or as Howe as he is in a crap position.

Should they let him go perhaps.

It’s certainly not got for him or Newcastle

From a purely technical point of view, yes a player is entitled to all money owed as part of their contract if the club wants to break the deal by selling them. That applies to every single transfer but almost never materialises. Outgoing players might (take Sancho as an example) tell the selling club if you want me to leave then you've got to pay me x or I'm staying put. And in scenarios where outgoing players don't want to leave and are moving to clubs that will pay them less, selling clubs will often end up subsidising their wages however none of this applies here.

Even the point about loyalty bonuses, sometime ago Daniel Gee (a sports lawyer) discussed loyalty payments and transfer requests and said these payments were typically set figures on a certain date in the year and unless there was something specific in the contract then a player was entitled to the money if they were still at the club on x. But even if Isak does have these payments that are invalidated by a transfer request, they will be insignificant when you take into account what he stands to earn and as above, if Newcastle really wanted to invalidate them, I'm sure Isak has given them enough already to do so.

What’s been said
I'm proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier
League Team of the Season for 2024/25. First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has
supported me along the way. I'm not at the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn't feel right to be
there. I've kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn't reflect what was really
said and agreed behind closed doors. The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is
misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. That's where things are for me right now - and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just
myself.
