Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

From a purely technical point of view, yes a player is entitled to all money owed as part of their contract if the club wants to break the deal by selling them. That applies to every single transfer but almost never materialises. Outgoing players might (take Sancho as an example) tell the selling club if you want me to leave then you've got to pay me x or I'm staying put. And in scenarios where outgoing players don't want to leave and are moving to clubs that will pay them less, selling clubs will often end up subsidising their wages however none of this applies here.

Even the point about loyalty bonuses, sometime ago Daniel Gee (a sports lawyer) discussed loyalty payments and transfer requests and said these payments were typically set figures on a certain date in the year and unless there was something specific in the contract then a player was entitled to the money if they were still at the club on x. But even if Isak does have these payments that are invalidated by a transfer request, they will be insignificant when you take into account what he stands to earn and as above, if Newcastle really wanted to invalidate them, I'm sure Isak has given them enough already to do so.
There has to be a reason why he won’t put in an official transfer request, and I will bet my ass it’s to do with money

When Wissa putting out his statement so we can get a good chuckle?

The Swedish rat needs gone.

“There’s only one greedy”

Isak has spoken. He's just put something on Instagram following his inclusion in the PFA team of the season. He says the club have broken promises made to him, that they've known about his desire to leave for a long time, that the relationship can't continue and it's best for everybody if he leaves. #freeisak
I don’t really understand how this matters - a desire to leave the club. A player and club sign a contract, and both player and club are required to honour that contract and the clauses within. The player is paid handsomely throughout. Forcing a move seems a daft thing to do with a) a fantastic season behind you and b) quite a bit left on your contract.

If he was so fixated (or ambitious) to move to a bigger club, he should have negotiated release clauses into his contract at the point of signing it. And indeed, any promises to leave would need to be put down on paper otherwise they're meaningless. Surely everything else is moot, no?

The "broken promise" rubbish floating around Wissa is total agent-speak and has no truth whatsoever. It wouldn't surprise me if the same or similar applies to Isak. After all, saying "we'll sell you at a fair price next summer" is very different from "we'll sell you a £X next summer".

Some things still don’t make sense though when it's put in context of his some actions early in the summer:
- He spoke to Elanga about coming to us to play alongside him.
- He appeared in the kit ads and promotional stuff
- He told Swedish TV he's happy here at NUFC

Find the whole situation confusing, it was only 6 weeks ago he was convincing Elanga to join us, was in the kit promo. He even went to Austria.

Rather perplexing that he was offered the new deal with the release clause and now he wants out. Now he's the victim.

Let the rat rot.

Since when did football work like that? Players will sign contracts and when they get a better opportunity for themselves they'll want to move and clubs will sign players and will try to get rid of them when they don't work out. It's part and parcel of football. Contracts tend to be nothing more than a bargaining chip in negotiations.

Quickly on the point of it being daft to try to force a move though, he stands to more than double his earnings and gives himself a realistic chance of winning major honours. Is it that daft?

Whole situation is a mess really. Newcastle will say we tapped him up etc, blame Isak entirely etc

Regardless of Isak all you can say is Newcastle haven’t done enough business regardless.

If Isak stays it’s even less money next year for him I’d guess as well

Rats going to do Rat things!!

Get that money and let him keep Liverpool physios busy. Happy spending for the next 2-3 years

Not like I’m going to cry myself to sleep like I did when Spurs bought Ginola!!

Many contracts these days have forfeiture clauses in the case of the player or their agent putting in a transfer request. It's likely Isak might either not receive a bonus or possibly have to pay it back.

Yeah but both parties have got to be happy or accepting of it, not just one.

A club can't say to a player "you've known of our displeasure of you for some time and now we're forcing you to leave against your will" - the club would either need to pay them out of their contract or equally the player could refuse a transfer, the same way a club can refuse a transfer.

He's got every right to want to move on to bigger things and bigger pay, but you can't just go because you want to - conditions have to be met, and those have to be conditions both parties agree to. He's not daft to want to force a move through, but he's daft to expect it and say "they're holding me against my will to the contract I voluntarily signed". Why should Newcastle be expected to sell him below their valuation simply because he wants to leave?

There are ways to go about these things - on one hand you have the Eze's and Mbuemo's of this world, and on the other you have the Isak's and Wissa's.

“I’ve kept quiet” while his agent has continue to mouth feed these journalists is amusing. “Promises made” It’s almost as if you signed a 6 year contract.

If Liverpool bid £150m or come close and we turn it down I could understand his frustration but they won’t get anywhere near that fee and he knows it. He’s desperate.

Unlucky bozo. Let him rot.

I agree both have to be happy and this is why he's kicking up a fuss, hoping that Newcastle decide it's in their interests to sell him/sell him for less.

And while clubs can't release a statement like this, they have their own ways of trying to force players to leave. Schweinsteiger spoke about how Mourinho banned him from the first team dressing room at the training ground and forced him to train with the kids. These things happen all the time but rarely do fans care because ultimately these players are being forced out because they're rubbish and no fan is getting upset at a rubbish player being kicked out the door.

Newcastle won’t make a statement, I suspect Howe will comment on next press conference but be more of same.

They won’t want to start a public fight with him doesn’t look good for Newcastle or Isak.

Let him rot for 3 years, let him go on a free after not kicking a ball for 3 years, let’s see who will pay him £350k a week then, rat ****
