Stalker 2

What optimization  It's UE5!
This is from over a year ago, UE5.4 had huge improvements, GSC said on their discord that they're looking at potentially UE5.6 instead of 5.5.4 which is also a big jump.

The problem is that it takes 3-5 years to make an UE5 game, so all the games we're playing are still on early versions, Stalker 2 itself is on 5.1 and it shows. The lumen lighting is especially raw.

Yep, and for all we know, 5.5.4 might be just as bad as 5.1 :P

You can always update to the latest version, so that' no excuse.

Lumen can work relatively decent for smaller spaces.

Has anyone tried this mod collection?
Great praise all round in the comment.
I thought it would take ages as i dont have a premium nexus mods account but it only took a few minutes.
Will try it later.

Out of boredom, I just loaded up a previous save after the update - bugs that were there when I completed it on release, are still there

Have the bugs been patched for this yet? Hoping to try it at some point

Clearly not, as another patch dropped yesterday.

That's why I gave it another go out of boredom last night, it was laughable that bugs from release, were still there when I loaded up an old save.
It is crazy they charged full price for this!
The graphics still look pants even at max 4K, especially stuff in the distance. The gun and his arm look good, that's about it. It looks nothing like the trailers we were given.

Dude, come one... They don't look like it was shown, true, but pants is a bit much.
Anything even slightly in the distance, goes all low res and jaggedy, it's so bland and copy and paste reused.
In that last dragged out 6-12 hours of just walked backwards and forwards to speak to a person, for filler content, it's just an endless blur of the same basic at best scenery, to say it's empty, and lacks visual fidelity, would be an understatement, but when you look out on a view from anywhere, be it the 2nd floor of a small building, or a ladder, it just goes all low res and crap, the draw distance is laughable in that respect. Yes you can 'see' far away, but stuff not far away looks terrible.

At distance, if you're really up (where you aren't 99% of the time), it has problems (partially due to crappy shadows implementations), it also has problems with reflections, limited/gimped GI and some that I'm missing now, but overall is decent. The atmosphere isn't different than the original games, even gameplay / with all the good parts, but (especially) the bad ones. It can't be Crysis, all green.

Anyway, if they move to a more recent iteration of the engine, it should improve (at least some) things.

LE: indeed it does feel like an early access game in general.

I'm talking 1 floor up on a small broken house roof, or the same height up a tower. It all just becomes minimalistic in the distance with jaggedy basic shapes for trees etc, and sparse.
The colour of the foliage isn't coming into question, it's how cheap and thrown together and empty it is, and the laughable quality of anything that isn't within range of a pistol.
It wont ever improve the terrain or graphical fidelity, this is what we got, yes maybe we might get some of the further away distant thinned out textures/trees to sharpen, but it's so sparse; a game engine update isn't going to redesign the lack of density.

I thought I'd humour it again after the update the other day, and I've played it for 3 hours in total so far, still the same bugs from release, still nothing going on in the wild, I haven't encountered any A-Life generated enemies or mutants, I'm so glad I didn't pay full price. I doubt I'll bother finishing it for a 2nd time.

It feels like we got majorly conned, big time. The ending(s) are laughable, I straight away watched all of the endings after finishing it, because I was so disappointed after around 60 hours, that I couldn't see myself going through it again - especially not that final 6-12 hours of downing energy drinks and running through mirrored copy and paste empty terrain back and forth, to press a button to speak to an NPC, hear some minimal, boring dialogue, to be told to zig zag back to where I came, and repeat - for 6-12 hours. Absolute trash.

I would have loved it if the map was a quarter of the size but packed with life, NPC's, mutants, and the main story was say 12-15 hours - they could have made it into a solid average length game then; but they got greedy.

They seem fine to me

There are mods addressing some of the issues, both visual and on the gameplay side. No reason to not fix the visuals with an engine update.

I started new, fresh install, it does seem better than at launch and I can't remember seeing a bug. I've encountered enemies of all sorts, even spawning again in the areas I've been (different than the originals, monsters the same).

The story... yeah, doesn't shine, but is not like it did with the previous games. Gameplay can be polished further through mods as it always has been - a bit of a Bethesda syndrome here as well.

I don't feel conned. I was expecting something to not be right, but the atmosphere and the potential gameplay are there. I find the map small :D But... I don't necessarily mind the walking and exploring.
Indeed, exploration, economy and some other stuff are "cheap", basic, arcadish, but hey... even Red Dead Redemption suffers from this.

All in all, depends what you're looking for. This isn't your typical pew/pew.

Each too their own I guess, at max settings 4K, I'm not majorly impressed, definitely not for UE5. It looks nothing like the quality of graphics in the trailer. Most of your shots are focusing on up close stuff looking ok, which it will.

I had a hilarious bug, when I started it from fresh the other night to humour it, when I got to the first fallout shelter during the first red storm, the guy in the chair was just looping his dialogue and vibrating/pulsing really fast on his chair - it's hard to explain but he was supposed to be sat down but was like buzzing/vibrating in a motion sense? If that makes sense  just really quickly moving ever so slightly, glitching like mad.

The story was thin, at best, and all the endings are a yawnfest. The only mildly good bit, is
when you're sat with Foust high up, and he's talking loads.

I don't feel it was a finished, nor proper attempt at a game, not on release and even now it's only passable, in terms of stability, but plot wise, missions, gameplay, it's just very copy and paste, empty filler content. the last quarter of the game was laughably stretched and padded out with OTT amounts of running back and forth to NPC's to say now go back, and repeat.

As I've said before, if it was say 12-15 hours long, and the map was a quarter of the size and densely packed with things to do/NPC's etc, then it would have been a great game.

Oh and I haven't even started picking at the lack of a real A-Life system... We were definitely lied to!

Say what you like about the game, it can feel empty etc and its a long way from complete but one thing ive never got was pants graphics.

As I said before, I play at 4K max settings, and it's far from next gen visuals compared to other UE5 games.
My main issue with the graphics, was the fact they look nothing like the trailer, we were definitely conned - it was probably a pre-rendered cutscene and not even real gameplay.
