Upgrade or Full Rebuild? Seeking Advice on My Next PC Move

You have it already so you might as well set it up now and see if you're happy with the performance of the current pc. If you are then there is no need to upgrade

You're right, didn't mention this but i am going away for 10 days 2mrw and that's been partly the reasoning too.

My wife is currently away visiting family in Stockholm and i am joining her Friday.

She doesn't know ive treated myself to a new monitor either so kind of looking to set it up and hope she doesn't even notice :D

I remember when i went from my 60hz monitor to a true 144hz monitor and was completely blown away by it, hoping for the same experience

Best time to set it up then. If she sees it when you guys return home, then gaslight her and say that she's remembered wrong

Picture quality of oled is much better, but you can get the VRR flickering

I agree i went all out three years ago and bought a new living room TV 77" oled LG C1, i thought i would regret spending all that money but honestly it was such a good buy.

I hope she doesnt notice :D

How are you finding it?
I'm in a bit of a dilemma with it , I've had it sat in the box since monday not sure to setup up now or waiting until i add a new cpu and gpu.

Did you find the step up to the new monitor on your old setup was worth it?

100% worth, id get it up and running as soon as possible. Even if you aren't gaming on it and just using it to watch videos, the experience is almost infinitely better

I managed to set my monitor up yesterday and very impressed with it so far the glow of the LCD is gone and pure deep blacks is wonderful :D

I also managed to bag myself a MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16G Ventus 3X OC for £599.19 which im very happy with the price.

Just still need to hunt for a CPU, i did find a AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D for £196 from ali express yesterday but would still need a new mobo, the 5700x3d and 5800x3d seem to be on the rise/stabilising

If you don't mind the lack of warranty I would get the 7800x3d. It's (obvs) a superior CPU compared to the 5800x3d/5700x3d.
You can always sell your current CPU/mobo/ram to offset the cost of the upgrade

I may just do this, seen mobo for around 120-150 so price very similar to a 5800x3d.

just unsure if my Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L V2 RGB AIO would fit AM5 boards otherwise thats another cost too.

AM5 motherboard socket uses the same cooler bracket size as the AM4 socket so it should work.

Or you could get the AliExpress motherboards for £60-80

When I was building my friend a pc I got all the parts from AliExpress too: 7500f, jginyue b650 night devil and juhor 32gb 6000mhz ram.
All cost £200 in total!
(CPU £90, mobo £60, ram £50)

Another head ache right there, finding the right board at the right price.

I had a really tough time finding one for my last build. Kept changing my mind and budget.

don't mind getting one from AliExpress just never heard of them brands before

Out of all the AliExpress brands, the only ones I would touch are: soyo/maxsun, jginyue and machinist.

Both soyo/maxsun and jginyue provide semi-regular bios updates from what I can see. Machinist dont do AM5 boards.

If you really want to go cheap Chinese, then for AM5 I would get: jginyue b650 snow dream (micro atx) or jginyue b650 night devil (mini itx)
They don't do full atx sized boards.

That being said there are decent b850 boards for £120-130 so if you don't want the hassle and want some warranty this would be what I would get.

Hello guys just a little update so far.

I spoke to my wife and we discussed that I should look to build my daughter a gaming pc for Xmas. I should just need a nice cool looking case that will fit my components she doesn’t do pink so thinking a nice white set up. I have an old hiper X 850w which will hopefully do the trick for her new one.

Any suggestions on a case appreciated.

So that frees me up to continue with a new build. For myself which is good news for me.

So far I have purchased a 5070TI and bagged a 9800 X3D yesterday. I will look to add some fast DDR5 just before Xmas later in the year.

I’m struggling on what I should go for on a motherboard I don’t have a budget for it I just need a full size ATX as I do have the room for it in my case. Prob look to get some fast DDR5 in there later in the year. Even though I don’t have a budget wouldn’t wanna be spending £250-£300. Rather look to spend around £150 just needs to suit my new components.

I don’t need WiFi as I have a wired connection.

B850 Eagle is £150, but be aware if you're going wired the LAN is only 1Gb.

Oddly enough was looking at one of these before and did a bid on one before on eBay I found.

My connection is wired in my computer space , my current home broadband is 550gig fiber so I should be good

Morning guys

Still hunting a mobo right now.

I know I’ve been previously hinting about reusing some of my older components.

I’ve only just been made aware that my older DDR4 will not fit an AM5 board and I’ll also need new memory.

I know from previous builds too much memory was pointless so maybe that’s changed now? In the past 32GB was plenty but should I be looking at 64GB?

And also the speeds too? Would 6000mhz be plenty or should also look to faster? 8000MHZ?
