EV general discussion

... like do you go to the wall you intend to mount the charger on and check on any attenuation.

Ohme pro installed. Didn’t even think about the mobile phone signal…

Was free with my Born VZ coming next month as part of Cupra offer. Just paid £50 for the extra CU box ‘surge protector’ and £90ish for a 8m cable over the standard 5m.

Car is parked odd so lead would fit for test as the ICE is a metre from the house so he had access. 8m enough. Took him 3.5hr for a standard install. He ran under floor but I already had carpet and boards up for him. Good job. Now to consider if I stick on agile or go. To be fair I’ve been fine without a home charger for 3 yrs but it was ‘free’ so why not.

No need to unloop as on a good enough supply despite my feed also going next door. CT clamp helps too

How do you verify that the place you intend to install it will have acceptable mobile signal (I have flakey mobile signal and need to use wifi calling as I've posted before)
I re read this and it needs quoting. What I do to understand if there is a mobile signal is use my mobile phone and see if there’s a signal. Then I don’t need to use it as an excuse to not get an EV for, what now?, 3 years?

Can you add something to this thread please rather than just relentless questions and misinformation. Kthx

The Ohme uses a multi sim and connects to whichever network is the strongest. My signal is not great where I am on my phone and I need to use WiFi calling but the Ohme Pro on the side of house has no issues connecting.

2021 Ionic 5 Premium 58kWh for a decent price. 50k miles but full Hyundai service history with the ‘big’ service done. Overall in fantastic condition and has obviously been well looked after by the previous owner (owned from new… wincing at the depreciation….).

Some cracking deals on the used market for Ioniq 5's, and the depreciation might not have been as bad as it could have been where they bought it from new, there were some epic cheap deals on the 58kW model from DtD and others in '21, also it was during all time low interest rate, so even Hyundai had some nice deals.

Tbh I haven't thought about the signal, but we get a good mobile signal anywhere in our house, so presumably that means we get a good signal outside our house.

I've not had any long calls on the driveway, but can't remember losing signal there.

Just waiting on some independent quotes to come in for installation.

Sorting out the charging cables as they seem to have gone missing between purchase (remote - all showing in pictures) and delivery.

Decent journey tomorrow taking our model 3 in for some service/ warranty work so will be interesting to see the motorway efficiency (with my wife’s lead feet…). Mixed driving so far was showing 4.5kWh which is better than I was expecting.

Please can you divulge how much you paid for it?

Looking at getting a 22ish plate Kona 64kwh and wondering how much the 5 cost, it looks a much nicer car.

Oh the mobile signal for a charger is something i'd not thought about, our house is in a total black spot for all networks :( have to use patchy wifi calling as we get nothing unless walking half a mile up the road...

Can any of the usual big name chargers be connected over an ethernet cable? I wouldn't really want to have to put in a Wifi AP up by the garage just for the charger if i could get away with it either.

The Zappi has Ethernet as far as I’m aware.

Hypervolt also has ethernet connection.

You can pick up a Premium 71plate for ~£16k, or the SE Connect from ~£14.5k

This one has under 20k miles.

You can often find the 73kWh Premium/Ultimate spec with 65-75k miles on for £15-17k as well.

I initially set a 10k budget, but after researching some cars am willing to pay 12 - 13k for a newish low mileage Kona.

Now looking at these ioniq 5 models, budget creep is setting again!

The car is for the OH and she wanted a Mokke e as she liked the look of it. It took some hard work to deter her from the mokka.

I think she'll love to look of the ioniq 5, but to get a sub 4 year old sub 50k mile example will be nearer 20k :(

Depends on the spec/model you want, the one I linked is £16k with low milage, but don't let higher mileage put you off with a well looked after vehicle.

This isn’t my shop mate, you’re lucky it’s not a membership club where EV advice has the prerequisite that you need to actually have an EV.

I’d also ban inner monologues typed out in words

Only minor gripe is the charger sticking out into a fairly narrow driveway, but will just need to be careful when leaving/parking.
Personally I'd buy a rubber cover for the end of the type 2 lead and one of those velcro cable tidy jobbies attached near the plug end. Then just loop the lead around the hook part, velcro the plastic handle part to the rest of the cable to stop it dropping to the floor under its own weight and not bother with the dock. Looks much neater and isn't really any more faff in use.
