The Big Reclining Seat Debate

I'm 6 foot 6 and if I'm in a short haul 737 or Airbus and you recline onto my legs I will let you know very fast.

It's horrific

Controversial question, but if you know it's an issue for you, shouldn't you book a seat with extra legroom rather than expecting someone else to suffer? For all you know they might be unwell or exhausted and banking on getting some sleep on the plane, only to have you ruin their flight.

I do if I can of course but sometimes its not possible. I always pay extra to go everywhere :p

Everything is usually sorted by just offering to swap seats. Being considerate of other people usually solves everything amicably.

Worst place to be is In so called business or premium. No extra legroom and the type of people that don't give a toss about others around them.

I didn't mean to come across as too aggro

I'm 67, travel a lot and never known anybody to recline their seat.
Mind you my longest flights have been about 6 hours to Nigeria.
I can only recall once, probably because as soon as they did it they trapped my legs and I yelped. I'm not the tallest either.

Short haul I can't see the need, they're not long flights. I also don't see the point of paying more to hide behind a curtain for a couple of hours.

Long haul, I lay down but I'm only doing that in business class.

As someone who is 6'3 I very much appreciate that most short hauls on newer jets are fixed non reclining seats now!

Nothing worse than some **** in front of you reclining...

As above - its not always possible to book extra legroom seats, plus the tables on them on some jets are not as good, not thet the regular tables are much good anyway!

I think the best compromise is booking an isle seat, so I do that all the time now so can stick my legs out and lean my shoulder into the isle a bit - but then you have to keep an eye out for an overzealous flight attendant ramming you with the drinks trolley.

Just can't win as a tall person sometimes.

Only time I've reclined a seat on a plane was in Premium Economy. Tested it out prior to the passenger behind me getting on board and it was fine. I'd expect it to be though for the price!
As mentioned above, I'm glad the short haul planes are pretty much fixed in place, from my holidays over the past few years anyway.
Am jealous of my 4yo lad at such time as he gets to stretch and sprawl as much as he likes.

Mrs just reminded me when I got scalded on a plane to Hurghada.
Just taken my hot drink, put it in the hole in the drop down and woman in front decided to recline.
Next thing I'm at the back of the plane with curtains drawn stripped down to my pants with the Stewardesses helping me.
I went back to my seat with my top off and they dried my t-shirt somehow.
Not one word of apology from the woman in front but even though I was red in places I was OK.

I think all people under the age of 16, or anyone wearing sportswear should be tranquilized, and put in the hold on all flights, rather than expecting everyone else to suffer, but we can't have it all! ;)
