Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22nd - 25th August 2025]

Lol, aren't they really trying to blame the ref accidentally touching fernades 30 odd seconds before as the reason for him missing?

Watching yesterday's MOTD. Dowman is obviously incredible for 15, but equally it makes you remember how absurd it was when Fabregas, at only a year older, came in and took Vieira's place

Said it earlier - looked like he went into a strop over that. Far too fragile (if that’s the correct terminology) if he’s getting wound up that easily.

He didn't say that?
Bruno Fernandes on being bumped by the ref before his penalty: "That put me a little bit off my nerves but it's not because of that why I missed the penalty. I missed because I kicked the ball very bad."

Fernandes is a player I've never understood the hype for. Ok, he's capable of the odd moment of class, but they are few and far between. He's got a lousy attitude, always crying to the ref and constantly diving around trying to get free kicks and penalties. Most of his goals for United have been penalties. And they make the guy captain :p

I think that’s a little harsh. I'm not his biggest fan but there’s been games he has won for them over the years. He is quite often the difference between them winning or not. Whether he does that enough is probably debatable

This is an ill informed viewpoint. He has consistently some of the best stats in any European league for the last 5 years in terms or appearances, chance creation, goals (for his position) and assists. I don't think anyone really comes close in his position. Which is an attacking midfielder or no.10 in the current parlance. All of that in a crap team that has been struggling. He does not have the odd moment of class he has many. There is of course a downside and the biggest of which is the making of the coach in that he does not see Fernandes as the no.10 ahead of too many others in this system. Bruno can play deeper but he is not naturally disciplined enough to hold that role. Yes he can be petulant, yes he as gone down too easy in the past but you see little of that now and he is one of the most fouled players. He certainly leads by his example and that can be chaotic at times. He wouldn't be my ideal captain, he has bad games. He infuriates with his inaccurate passing profligacy at times but he's been United best player for 5 years and without him relegation was a possibility last season.

Your assertion that most of his goals are penalties is also wrong. 98 goals/38 penalties.

He is model professional on and off the pitch. You can still not like him - thats fine but don't disrespect his contribution as a player.

Have most of his goals been from penalties? The last three seasons in the EPL, the majority of his goals didn't come from penalties.

22/23 - 8 goals, 2 penalties
23/24 - 10 goals, 4 penalties
24/25 - 8 goals, 3 penalties

I don't think his attitude is lousy either, he puts in a shift most games and despite how poor we've been, he hasn't downed tools or pushed for a move away. I agree fully that he moans a lot and a couple of seasons ago, there were times he lost possession too easily and rather than get back up and into position, he rolled around on the floor trying to get a decision. On occasion, some of those times resulted in us conceding a goal.
