Pimax Crystal Super

Excellent news, Chris. I'm glad you're liking it so far.

I got my StudioForm bits yesterday and it has significantly improved the comfort.

I do wish there was a proper 'off' button on the headset itself. I've had to dangle the little box that has all the cables going into it in a certain way under my desk, so that I can easily pull out and plug back in the power cable. I don't like the idea of the headset being powered on all the time my PC is on.
You could plug it into a smart switch or cut and shut a switch into the wiring

If you want a simpler and much cheaper option just get a small usb hub with switches.

My crystal light headset is completely off if the usb is not plugged in, and a usb hub with switches achieves the same.

I use the Sabrent 4 port usb3 one. Doesn’t even need a power source and works perfectly.

Oh that's a good idea, I didn't think of that. I do already have a powered USB hub for all my sim racing gear. I probably need to move it though as my daughter keeps turning everything on using it.

So after 10 days with my super i’d say it’s an amazing headset well worth the money! yes it has its problems like all headsets but the immersion it gives you I’ve never really felt before, like proper vertigo in a helicopter in MSFS24 it’s truly a stunning experience with a 5090.

anyone on the fence go for it if you have a PC to run it

Glad you like it. Are you actually able to run anything at native res though? I'm on a 5090 on a Crystal Light, and that struggles on more things than you would like to think at native res, so I very much doubt the 5090 will drive the Super at native in many titles.

My next headset is 100% going to be OLED though. I'm loving my new Light, but I keep flitting between that and my PSVR2 for some games as the OLED difference, particularly black levels, is just enormous.

Local dimming is just not good enough. An easy way to illustrate is, I still have one quite old TV that's a VA panel. If you'd never seen an OLED screen you'd think it had very good black levels, but a side by side comparison with OLED is a joke.

The only game that runs full native is Assetto Corsa all others I have to drop a bit

Edit: AMS2 runs @ 100% too if you turn down the AA

Yeah, it's a monster. I worked out even with the FOVmod a 5090 would struggle, although with a bit less MSAA it might just about manage it.

Just to try, I supersampled my light to 6000 res and couldn't tell the difference in AMS2. Either AMS2 is at the limit of how far you can push it or my eyes can't see past a certain point. I'm thinking probably AMS2 as the engine is getting quite old.

The OLED in the PSVR2 was a sight to behold. Probably the best showcase for a night race due to the high brightness through the frenel lenses, just a shame everything else was crap. Those night races did look pretty damn good though, I miss seeing a pitch black sky with the car headlights shining through into the cockpit. You'd not get that even on the newer OLED headsets as they aren't very bright.

I don't think I'm going to upgrade until the next headset does a lot of things better than what I have now.....AND.....nothing is worse.

Resolution, lenses, fov, brightness, glare, comfort, tracking......and the super isn't a big enough upgrade imho, although if a deal came up I might be tempted with the ultrawide

Pretty much ruled out the dream air as I think it's going to be like a meganex without the problems, and even then I think I'd prefer the light.

I thought the PSVR2 was utter rubbish. I was expecting to be impressed but it was simply awful - smeary, blurry, low resolution, massive glare and a tiny, tiny sweet spot. The worst thing was the awful mura which ruined every dark scene.

The Quest Pro was massively better, even with the halo effect of the local dimming.

So.... It's here

Dmas speakers, ice cushion and 2 step quality check.

I've set display to high (full native) and can run ams2 and iracing at 90fps via the crop2fov mod, most bells and whistles on and it looks stunning.

I don't seem to have mura, if I do it's barely perceived.

Now for the bad bit...

Tracking is still awful for me, I raced from 19:30 through to very late part way through I took headset off and on return even though I'm still showing 90fps I get massive movement lag. Every time I cover the top cameras it stops for x time.
I've tried project lasso on the last 8 cores but I'm showing no spikes, going to play this afternoon in daylight to see if it's lighting, it was doing it in pihome and steamvr home.

Not tried the dmas yet or the top strap and cushion in case it's going back, although I think it's a keeper.

I’ve had no issues with tracking really? But my room is white walls with lots of small pictures in black frames maybe that helps?

Yeah I'm gonna print some qr codes and blutack (others tacks are available :D )

You tried wide mode lab

Haha yes I was literally cross eyed with wide mode

I run ams2 with everything on low except shadows and textures to ultra @6500 x 6500 it’s like being there

I took off the top strap again I think it’s about the same comfort wise but the top strap kinda stops the headband from rotating all the way up as it interferes with the gasket so makes putting it on n off a little trickier

That good then 9:30pm as it was getting dark? So I guess my frames help the tracking then! it may get better over time as it learns the layout maybe?

Naah been dark for ages, don't think it learns the room, seems to lose controllers as well, fairly sure it's my system/pimax issue, hoping the lighthouse faceplate comes out soon
