WTAF is wrong with people?

Over 2.6 million people have signed a petition in support and demanding leniency for Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant who was granted a Commercial Driver's Licence in California/Washington the went on to cause the death of 3 people when he dangerously ignored a no U-turn sign on a highway (motorway).

He failed an English language & sign recognition test applied by police after the incident then fled back to California.

Lefties supporting this guy in such big numbers is quite a worry.
Oh quit it with this pathetic left/right nonsense as if everything's one extreme or another.

I guess some would call me 'left' but I wouldn't go within a mile of a petition like that. His 'wrong decision' killed several people, there's no clemency for them or their families.

I personally think over here deaths caused by dangerous/drunk/drug driving aren't punished harshly enough.

But it's over there so that's as much as I care to think about it.

During process/act that killed three people, not the process of legal proceedings.
You want him to express remorse during the course of an event? Is this like minority report or something?

“I’d like to express my regret for the accident I am currently involved in. I am deeply saddened by the as yet unknown consequences.”

45 years for an accident is kinda bonkers. In the UK you’d be lucky if he got 45 days for that.
A pretty extreme level of negligence though... he pulled a clearly dangerous maneuver in a big hgv - professional drivers of big commercial vehicles are rightly expected to have a higher standard of driving and be more aware of the hazards they can create.

Maybe 45 years (that sounds like an 'up to' though, so quite possibly would get a much smaller sentence) would be too much, but equally the consequences for dangerous driving in the UK are far too lenient.

Also seems obviously false for his supporters to say he has a clean record when he's an illegal immigrant... I don't get how a case like this motivated millions of people to come out in support for him.

It almost certainly didn’t. It’ll be getting bombed by bots. Online petitions are trash.
