What is wrong with people - Harjinder Singh, killer HGV driver.

In a country that lets almost everyone have a gun, giving someone a drivers licence isn't much of a surprise.
This is also a country that jails people for hundreds of years, so maybe he got off lightly...

In the UK he'd be charged with 3 counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

Given the circumstances, HGV, blatant disregard for rules of the road, U turn on a motorway from the inside lane. he'd be looking at 12 years just for one death. Maximum sentence is now life imprisonment for D by DD and would be very much on the table if this was a UK incident.

You’re basing this on the fraction of a second of the video in which it becomes apparent the car is going to hit the truck?

It's not a fraction of a second, the footage shows the car appearing and hit, and the HGV has very little reaction to it. There's also the video after with him at the crash site which shows the same. He appears to not care at all. All of this and more will be shown to a jury at trial, where is lack of reaction to the crash and killing those people will be used against him.

He has no reaction in the fraction of a second in which he spots the car? What did you want him to do? By then, the mistake has been made and the ship has sailed. No amount of wheel jiggling is going to change things at that point.

As for his behaviour when he’s stood there, I think you’re expecting a lot. It sounds like you want him to perform for the camera or something. People react to shocking situations in different ways.

Wait for the trial for heaven’s sake.

The video shows him before and after, not sure why you're so fixed on a fraction of a second before impact.

And we are waiting for the trial, in the mean time this is a forum where things can be discussed.

Yes, he should have a reaction, but I never mentioned a split second. I mentioned during and after, at no point does he show anything. And I haven't convicted him, this is a discussion forum, one in which you are constantly straw manning.

The Independent video has barely 4 seconds of footage from the cab and for about half of that the video is paused to highlight the car in the image. Once you allow for thinking/reaction time that doesn’t leave him a lot of time to take evasive action in a borderline jack-knifing lorry, let alone mug for the camera as you seem to want him to do. In that remaining second he’s probably doing little more than thinking “Well, there’s nothing I can do here, that car is going to hit us.”

There's 7 seconds of video in the cab, that shows before and after impact. No reaction from him. There's also video outside with him on scene, again he doesn't seem to care. Seems to match up with someone who thinks it's okay pull their ~30 ton truck across traffic.
 
Meanwhile the same country elects people to power who steal from the poor and give to the rich on a daily basis and defund programs or divert funds from orgs that help people survive - nothing has happened to them...... Where is OP's outrage to that?

I guess letting people die when you are not an immigrant is OK.
