At what point do you say GPU's are too expensive and refuse to buy?

I just moved from 3440UW to 4k and FPS did get smacked down considerably on 4090 - it's quite a bit more than few pixels. That 4k has 3.5 million pixels more than that UW one (about 64% more). Still, with dlss and fsr (4 preferably), 4090 really isn't necessary to be playable and it looks fine. If I had to buy GPU now it would be 9070XT as it has no competition in the price range in stores usually.

Red devil - managed to get it for £590 brand new from somewhere ‘very’ good.. ;) on 20% off first BNPL and just paid it off. Got it to -45 mv -20% PL so draws upto 265 watts and 2714mhz VRAM. Boosts typically around 3.0ghz and stays at 30% fan so very silent. I did have it at 1440p 170hz… now driving 4k 144hz. BO6 100+ fps at all time 4k maxed out :)

Excellent news dudes, appreciate the insights. After some consideration and reading I have picked up a Sapphire Nitro+ to put through it's paces.

Sounds like it's just a formality checking it does what I need (Hunt, BF6 and Linux support in dual boot) and then the 4090 can go on to someone else. Weeeee.

Excellent news buddy enjoy it! - just remember out the Box it’ll draw C. 330w which for these cards causes the hotspot and memory to run hot. By maxing my power draw to 265 watts with the UV, negative power limit and memory OC, it has resulted in lower temps, similar performance as stock thanks to the UV, and lower power draw so it’s now effectively similar power draw to a 4080 with pretty much 4080 performance :)

I just checked eBay for chuckles to see what a 4090FE is going for these days, I am astounded. I paid £1500 back in 2023, and they're selling for more than that still.

Mostly play Hunt Showdown these days and soon Battlefield 6 so the 4090FE is wasted, seriously considering punting it on for a 9070XT and banking the difference.
I am still considering selling mine on ebay, not been gaming much these days and they will probably be going down soon.

I went balls to the wall and bought a 5090 and 9950X3D I convinced myself it would save me money in the long run as I end up chopping and changing losing a hundred quid or so every time and this should mean there's nothing worth changing to for the next 2 years

That said, I picked up a second system from Facebook marketplace with a 5900X 32GB of Ram and a 6900XT for 1/4 of what the 5090 cost me and I've been playing cyberpunk and call of duty on it @1440P and have been more than satisfied with it's performance makes me almost regret what I've spent on the other system :(

I think knowing I've not spent a fortune on the system makes me much happier living with a few settings tweaks and compromises whereas when I'm spending £1k or more on a GPU I expect to have all the eye candy on.

That's why I'm perfectly happy with this system on a 1440p OLED monitor! Sure I can get better performance on a newer platform. But this is fine, the 4080 Super chews through 1440p and the CPU is good enough still.

I get my money's worth out of hardware!

For me 1K would be the max in a GPU,I do always tend to try and aim for the higher end gpus so that I know I'm good for quite some time.
Currently have a 4080 Super and it just plows through everything I throw at it 1440p 165Hz.

NVidia’s marketing team have a lot to answer for I think, I fell for a lot of the hype and was loyal to the brand for a good few years.

Having jumped back to AMD it’s very clear to see they’ve made massive gains. If NVidia keep focusing on the AI space and paying lip service to the gaming market with their I think there could be a long overdue rebalancing in the gaming GPU space.

Unless AMD screw it up.

Looking into my Crystal Ball, in 20 years time I can see some huge Chinese GPU manufacturer buying up a failing and bankrupt Nvidia.

ATM Nvidia are doing okay but they are also making some huge mistakes that will come back to bite them in the future.

The US restricting tech to China is going to rebound really badly, this will drive the Chinese to innovate and do their own thing to the point where they are going to overtake the rest of the world.

Let's hope so as they'll also want to flood the market at silly low prices too, I don't NEED a new GPU every release cycle and realistically most of us in here could live quite comfortably with a 5070Ti or 9070XT... but it's nice to have all the bells and whistles turned on in a game, The prices are ludicrous though.

Golden rule for most consumer purchases: Never pay full price!

I was waiting for the next gpu releases to upgrade from a 3070, but found a deal last week for a 5070ti for £599 and thought that was too good to pass on, and looking at 3070 resale value it shouldn't end up too expensive an upgrade considering I need a new PSU too.

These GPUs are only going to get more and more expensive as AI demand increases and supply for gaming hardware decreases. £2000 might seem extreme for a flagship, but in a few years that could look more like £5-6k or more.

I just sold my 4090 FE on the auction site this morning. I listed it and it suggested £1600 wich i found a tad high, but within a minute someone offered me £1336 so i accepted. Im happy with that as I see last one on here went for the same money. Mine had 2 months warranty on it. Im just not using it im gaming more on my 9700XT/5800X3D system. And the games i play dont need all that power. I'll most likely pickup a Sapphire Nitro+ 9070XT to go into my 7800X3D pc now. My pulse has been excellent.

The Nitro+ is excellent, Mate of mine has it, Solid card !

I've been out of the PC game space for a while. Since the crypto/covid/AI era, it been one disaster after the other causing GPU prices to shoot up. My Vega64 is starting to show its age but current prices (expecially Nvidias) are insane. Even AMD is nuts charging £600+ for their mid range 9070XT. Back in my day (lol) this was flagship pricing. My budget was typically £200-400 and I'd be able to get a previous gen flagship in that range. But today even a 5 year old 3090 is still £500+ Madness

I think my RX 7700 XT might be on its last legs! I'm seeing pink artifacts on the screen, though oddly, not while gaming yet. It's made me a bit hesitant about sticking with AMD. I’m trying not to spend too much on a replacement, so I’m looking at a few options: the RX 9060 XT 16GB, the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, or Intel’s ARC B580. Not sure which way to go.

I own the card, it is a solid and well made GPU, the Sapphire RX 9070 XT Nitro Plus. Plus it has sold for lower prices since launch than what I paid for it. I think it is one of the best RX 9070 XT's on the market.

It should be under warranty still? What PSU are you using?
