* BATTERY DRAIN *

Is anyone else’s Switch 2 suffering tremendous battery drain when in Standby?

I have 2 Switch 2’s in the house…

I was playing DKB on Wednesday night, and put it into standby at 56%. When I picked it up on Thursday evening, the battery was dead. 56% gone in about 22 hours!

I plugged it in, and played it plugged in. It was at 100% when I stopped playing, and put it into Standby. About an hour later, I decided to turn it OFF based on my previous nights experience, and it was already at 94%.

This morning, my daughter wanted to play my one, so removed my sons one from the dock and played it.
45 mins later, she was done. I realised she’d taken his one off the charger, so went to turn it OFF. It was at 93%.

My OG Switch (launch edition) is hopeless with battery, so I’m used to turning it OFF after use, otherwise it’s likely I’ll pick it up in a few days and it’ll be dead. I didn’t think I’d be doing the same with brand new Switch 2’s.

I’ve had my one since launch day, and I don’t recall it being as viscous on the battery when in standby as it is now. Maybe 5% per day, rather than 5% per hour. My son’s one (although a day one purchase) has only been used for 9 days (birthday present). Both are on the latest FW.

Is anyone else noticing that their S2 is draining the battery at a ridiculous level when in standby?

....
I noticed something similar in the beginning that standby was draining a lot in comparison to steamdeck. I checked now and it took 3% in 4hrs. So not sure what is impacting it. I have Zelda BOTW running on standby as well while testing.

I get the same thing when a game is open in the background and I put it into standby. If I close any open games and then put it into standby, I find it lasts a bit longer but it still drains the battery really quickly compared to my Steam Deck OLED.

The problem is when you quit DKB, all the ‘damage’ you’ve done gets reset. The only way to keep your progress is to keep the console in standby with the game running in the background.

It looks like the dock is causing the vertical micro scratches on my screen. I read some people have had success sending it in to Nintendo for repair so I'm going to give it a try.

I just bang mine back in the dock in sleep mode with game open in background, been doing that on switch 1 for 7 years without issues
I play mine 95% handheld… but I’ve started plugging a USB cable in (or putting it in the dock) when not in use. Perhaps once I’ve finished DKB, I won’t have to do it anymore. Or perhaps there will be a FW update that stops it devouring the battery when in standby?!

I ordered a microSD Express card on the 24th of July and it still hasn't shipped. Need to hold off digital purchases as I'm almost out of internal storage.

What's the nintendo store like price wise? Almost pulled the trigger on a switch 2 but worried I'd be priced out for games. Not a huge gamer and I won't pay £60 for games. I'd get the Mario kart bundle but looking at cyberpunk aswell.

Also, is there a point if you don't commute? If I'm gaming it's at home.

Nintendo games generally maintain fairly high RRPs - to get much money off you're better off looking second hand for most stuff. The online store is pointless outside of sales IMO - it's still asking £50-£60 for old Switch games like MK8, Mario Odyssey etc.

My Switch spent 95% of its life in the dock being played on TV

Silksong coming out in just over a week. Can't wait to pick this up and play it on the Switch 2.

Yeah looking forward to Silksong too, and it's nice that it'll support 120Hz on Switch 2.

I was checking the first games I bought digitally on Switch, crazy it's been over 7 years since I got the original Hollow Knight.
