The Abyss is one of my all-time favourite movies, and I only found out today that when they demonstrate the SEAL's breathing kit the rat they show being submerged in the fluid is real - the rat was actually breathing liquid in that scene and survived. Makes you wonder what advances have been made in that field in the 36 years since the movie came out.

anyone ever look at google maps and notice anything interesting in the not so far surroundings?

Like I noticed this house seems to have what's basically a private island.

it looks like it's just a public footpath going between the house
but it leads to a locked gate

it seems someone has an epic back garden whether they own it or not, it's all walled off and leads to no where.

only the closest neighbours probably even realise it's there.

From what can be seen in 3D view doesn't look like any of the nearby houses connect to it, but the playground and tennis courts appears to have seen regular use at some point.

EDIT: Appears to be Axwell Park https://axwellpark.com/ from the vague information available it seems private to the residents of the nearby estate:

The field is managed to provide a special place for all residents of Axwell Park Building Estate to enjoy as well as for hosting social events such as BBQ and Bonfire parties.

One of the weirder ones I found near me, in the middle of nowhere, a private development of a dozen newly built houses and a large older manor house in a newly built private village including a village hall and shops, etc. - kind of like something out of Wayward Pines or The Prisoner, I did wonder if it was a film set for awhile but it isn't.

Look up "liquid breathing". Not a lot has happened since, afaict. One of those ideas that seems really neat but lacks practical applications.

It's also one of my all time favorites and it's annoying that you can't seem to stream it anywhere. Anyway, that rat scene caused a big fuss and had to be cut from later releases.

I need to source source brassica leaves for catterpillars on balcony that will other wise starve, so I guess I should go buy some brussel sprouts or so.

They already started searching the other plant pots that have nothing they can feed on, a wild kohlrabi or some such somehow ended up in a plant pot on the 6th floor :S
I thought it would last them fine, but even the 2-3inch catterpillars are searching.

I saw them get laid 3 weeks ago

Because of my self assessment and tax return I had a new tax code to cover the shortfall I am owed, so I got a nice temporary "bonus" this month. I'd love to earn that salary every month! It'll help pay off the 1month holiday we've just had!

So a tax refund?

and here i am still paying tax i owe :(

only another £180 to go (actually its £228.56) out of £520

"
You owe £228.56 .

You paid too little tax. There are a number of payment options available."

the remainder will be paid from some interest im earning out of one of my smaller savings accounts, and its coming out of my PSA which is not good but better than paying the rest out my own pocket.

Yeah basically. I was £964 or so in credit, my latest tax return meant I owed them £600ish, so still £300 ish in credit. But they changed my tax code instead of sending me the £300 - but the tax code released more money than I think I'm owed.

1770L vs 1257L.

So no doubt I'll face another tax code change in due course...

I used to get those message "you paid too little tax" - when I was battling HMRC and my payroll department about pension contributions and tax free childcare shenanigans. They don't make it easy do they?

Good luck hopefully they dont take it back off you

im on C1257L. they wont be changing my code next tax year as im paying what i owe now manually over a couple of months

I think it may have had something to do with the bonus i had at the end of the tax year last tax year tipping me over the edge. Now their chasing me for a bigger cut than i would normally pay post higher rate.

Ill keep an eye out next time

What tyres are we talking about ? I always use my fingers with the continental road bike tyres

there is a trick to do it without hurting your fingers

i never use tyre levers

I have kevlar covers and rarely get a puncture but when I do they are a booger to get back on a rim without levers.
I use three short plastic (nylon) levers.

Got a bit soaked being caught in the rain on the ride back .. now the rain has stopped but may start again

Do I risk it and get back on the bike to head to the pool or not .

What a week. Dental surgery last week, healing nicely though, just a bit longer for this one given the complexity.

Then thought I’d get a mole checked, that one is fine, but doc reckons a few others may need biopsies. Getting old is not fun.

It’s been threatening all day, but still none!

I'm gonna do it. It's paused for the moment . Go go go

Holiday booked, checked the cossie situation Ima gonna need extra swim shorts as it'll be a load of suntan lotion, salt water and spa, the last got a little trashed.

New non-indecent speedo swim shorts arrived (no photos) and I'm impressed. Been researching things todo, and continuing to job hunt. Just learnt my old boss who got the push too has just signed the contract on a new role. Just got to keep at it.
