Carabao Cup 2nd Round Football Thread ** spoilers ** [26th - 27th August 2025]

Man Utd owners probably looking at Franks at Spurs who they passed over and just hearing Jim Bowen

Ange started off well at Spurs too so it is too early to tell. Everyone was creaming over his high line but teams adapted. Frank basically has a free card at the moment until teams start to suss him out.

He’s terrible. Easily the worst keeper in the league.

After a couple of weeks/months should have just got DDG back as he was a free agent.

I said that here over a year ago but @adam cool dude was quoting stats to the contrary. What are you saying now Adam? ;)

Onana should have saved the first shot as well. You can see DDG saving that as those kind of saves were his bread and butter.

With the new additions I could see Utd having a pretty good season but I thought that was going to be without Onana.

If they persist with him in goal then all bets are off.

I'd argue most keepers would've saved the first one. Being beaten at the near post by close range and power is disappointing but acceptable. Their first was from far enough away most people should've got down to that.

First goal was poor. DDG would have saved that with his feet but Dave liked to use his feet. Never understood why more keepers don't honestly.

Second was just unforgivable. Waited until the worst moment to come and completely miss the ball.

As rubbish as we were all over the pitch for most of last night, Onana cost us the game. Going 2-0 down as a fragile side isn't great for confidence or morale.

I meant right at the start. Right back when he should have given away a pen against wolves. Caused the CL elimination. Had a few windows since to get a replacement in.

getting ddg back wasn't an option. they should have binned him off pretty sharpish once it became apparent he's just not a very good keeper but i understood giving him a bit of a free pass in his first season (as i've said quite a few times the poor bugger was bound to have been suffering shell shock with the amount of shots he was facing in ETH's last full season) but when the club managed to semi sort that issue it became clear that he sadly just wasn't a very good goalkeeper - it was at that point they should have binned him off.

you cannot build a successful, confident team when the last line of defence is so completely howler prone. no matter how good the outfield players may be, trying to coach them and getting them to play without fear is nigh on impossible when in the back of their minds they're going to be potentially thinking - 'it's only a matter of time till our keeper drops one into his net' and that can and does lead to the kind of gutless display we saw yesterday and to a lesser degree the second half against fulham..... rightly or wrongly there's going to be thoughts of 'what the **** is the point of knocking my pan out when that *** in nets is gonna have a howler any minute now'

ain't football a funny old game - but for a pair of eejits for 1st and 2nd choice keepers and a smidge of luck we could have 6 points in the league with the second string scrapping past Grimsby in last nights cup game and every one would be happy as pigs in ***** but bemoaning a lack of depth.

The analysis of this is 100% spot on. I don't really watch much Premiership football, but if most teams do a hard press with the far superior quality they have compared to us Grimsby Town, how much it would hurt Manchester United if Amorim keeps to his 5 at the back.

Don't know about that but his T shirt is awesome.
