EV general discussion

Long range RWD is the smart buy IMO, not sure if it has the extra speakers but the stereo without them is still perfectly serviceable and better than many cars standard offering.

The issue is now you have driven the performance, the RWD models will feel slow.

Edit: do look at the Kia’s and Hyundai’s they are a very different take on an interior. You’ll find their infotainment is something from the 90’s compared to Tesla though, slow and full of menus but does support car play.

the SR and LR RWD do not have the upgraded audio
only the LR AWD and performance do

Looking at chargers and thinking between the Hypervolt 3 pro or the Zappi Glo

Has anyone got either? i understand the Glo is pretty new but still uses the same app etc so i assume fairly similar.

I was wanting one with an Ethernet port but they seem really thin on the ground now as the new Glo doesn't have one :( i can probably make do with Wifi, just need to stay away from 4G ones due to poor signal in the area and don't want any ongoing costs from it either so that rules out the Ohme offerings.

We've got the hypervolt, no issues so far works perfectly with octopus and looks nice if that's a consideration

i bought my hypervolt via octopus (£1050 with 5m cable)
yet to be installed as i'm going on holiday when they were next available. installation booked for late september

We’re going for the Hypervolt as it looks neat and doesn’t leave cables dangling everywhere. It’s also in white so should blend in with our house better than a black/grey box.

Getting it installed via a independent company then will decide if we stick duty E-On or Octopus

Just get the hypervolt if you want something with eithernet.

The OG Zappi has it also and has a few more features but it looks like a toilet seat which you can't unsee once you have seen it (sorry if you have not seen it yet)

Went back to Tesla today to get some new wheel trims fitted, they checked over the charger port as i had an issue with the cable latch not engaging. They checked it with 4 different chargers and didn't find an issue, suggests its something on my end. I've got a fixed podpoint charger at my house so the cable doesn't come off it.
Debating if it is worth getting a different charger, maybe the Tesla one.
New model Y performance is nice inside, although the rear of the car looks a a bit meh. Got offered to test drive it but was short on time.

Yeah i've heard a few people say that and like you say once you see it.. :(

The hypervolt would look the best on my garage but i'm not that bothered about looks really, just want something that's going to work with no fuss.

I'm having to have electrics run out to my garage as part of the install though so it's going to be expensive :( just had the first quote back from an electrician of £1800 and that's with my supplying the charger myself so getting on for £2500 all told :(

Keeping using the granny charger with a cable slung out from the house is feeling quite appealing at the moment!

Before you buy anything, you can try filing out the locking hole on the cable a little bit. As you look at the pins its the hole on the right.

A bunch of very early hypervolt chargers has an issue where the tollerences on the holes were too tight and the locking pins wouldnt engage on certain cars - Tesla was one of those. You are probably only talking about 0.5-1mm needed to be taken off each side.

1025, should’ve been 1050 but my partner gets a whopping £25 discount for being a ‘key worker’.

Only reason not going through Octopus is because they don’t have them in white
Ah fair enough. Prices the same as octopus. I would've cancelled and asked for your installer if it was significantly cheaper

Will defo look at the EV6, already seen Hyundai stuff and wasn't a fan.

The standard MY still felt pretty quick to me, the performance is obviously another level, but it seems pretty excessive.

The overall build quality in the new MY was notably better than previous gen. I'm leaning towards the new one.

I have the Hypervolt and can't fault it. The cable wraps nicely around the charger and also has a wall plug to park cable on. The app is very informative too and battery storage and solar ready should you go down that route later.

Have you got an itemised quote, as £2,500 seems excessive. I paid £1,500 in total and that included a populated 6-gang garage consumer unit (at my request for future use) and the installer took his time and did a really neat job.

What are peoples thoughts on picking up a used model 3 at the current time?

been in a stop gap fiesta for a year and finally want something nicer. Have been looking at 2021 (china built) model 3 LR. looking at some with some months warranty left and under 50,000 miles. so i can do the cleevely end of warranty inspection and have anything fixed in time for warranty expiring.

Seems prices have shored up a bit recently. seems to be around £19k for what im looking for. Will be buying outright no finance. Seem like an ok deal? just realised the 75 plate comes out on monday and dno if this will relax prices on 21 plate cars and worth holding off a couple weeks

would recommend looking at 22/72 cars as these came with the Ryzen CPUs and heat pump as standard
(note that 22 reg were at the height of the chip shortages so some of them randomly came with the atom CPUs - do double check this before you commit)
