Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th - 31st August 2025]

United fans need to take a degree of comfort in that whilst we've had a shaky start to the season the performances under the previous coach regularly saw us outplayed and getting spawny results even at Old Trafford. Last season thrashed at home by Liverpool and Spurs. The previous season we were lucky to beat Wolves, comfortably beaten by SPurs, were 2-0 down at home vs Forest, thrashed by Brighton. Time will tell but at least it doesn't feel like we are being completely outplayed and tactically some of the defensive frailty can be worked on.

If we could hit par for our xG we would be absolutely fine. Today we effectively scored 1 goal for over 3 xG. That is the biggest thing (outside our ***** keepers) thats going to determine results.

Not sure whats worse if you're a Newcastle fan, that you've played 3 and won none or that you are 9 places below Sunderland in the league. I'd fully expect those positions to be swapped around by the end of the season though

Isn’t that down to having woeful forwards that continue to miss chances or good chances? Consistently doing so proves they’re not up to it?

That's odd.

Looking at the table this morning, after all the Newcastle mocking of United I looked at 9th and above to see where they were only to see them in 15th :p

Meh.. at least they didn't get beaten by Grimsby!

Anyways, all the ties today have some real interest.

City at Brighton, all due respects to Brighton but for me this tie will really show where City are at just now.

Forest West Ham. West Ham look to be in all sorts of trouble and desperately need something today or the alarm bells will really start ringing.

Liverpool Arsenal. Tie of the weekend, obviously a huge game that doesn't really need any talking about.

Villa Pallace. Bigger game for Villa for me as they are at home and again really need something ahead of the break.

To beat Arsenal today we need to maintain concentration and composure, we can't give away leads like we've done in the last couple of games. Kind of hoping for a game where we just take the lead and kill off the game, no drama but it never happens against Arsenal.

We’re not keeping a clean sheet today.

Our defense atm is shocking I’m genuinely expecting daft score line.

Was hoping to see Tzimas at least on the bench today against City. Last week showed we needed a striker on the bench, but at least we have Rutter coming back from a knock.

Feels a bit like a free hit this game, expecting to lose so anything else I’ll take! The squad is capable of giving City a game, but we’ve not started well this season.

I am not enjoying the officials today. Van Hecke deserves a yellow, but everything before that is no good.
