*** The Official iPhone 17 thread (it has new camera bumps and everything!) ***

I’m not in the market but it will be interesting to see what they do and how many of you who are still doing the yearly upgrades will go for it.

13PM is starting to die a bit and I'd like to not have lightning cables needed anymore (if my work ever upgrade their phones too...), one absolute key feature I've always wanted was the Promotion screen so hoping the regular 17 comes with that as rumours suggest this time round, if so then that'll be my option

I will be upgrading from the 16 pro to the 17 but unsure if pro/max.

I hope this new orange/copper colour is more copper than it is orange.

Foldables are overhyped, I just cant see myself using it like that. If I wanted to multitask that bad Ill just use my PC or laptop
Had the Fold3. Was absolutely game changing for watching video. Huge, bright, amazing. Just better overall experience with a bigger screen.

Vowed never to go back but then you find the biggest two issues. 1) Inner screen is total garbage strength wise, plastic **** you can destroy with hard press of a finger nail. 2) weight, God damn heavy. It actually caused my wrist to ache after a few months.

They’ve come a long way since Fold3 but will wait for Apple to release something more quality, specifically inner screen, though single bendable gorilla style strength glass seems sci-fi still. They’ve talked of “glass reinforced” and such but it’s marketing bs.

Fair enough, but for my use case I just dont see it. I only watch youtube on my phone and I dont think a slightly bigger screen is gonna make the experience that much better for me. At least not to spent upwards of £1800

Very interested to see if the rumoured nano texture glass option does appear with the iPhone 17. I'm not especially a fan of glossy displays so I'd be interested to try a phone with a more matte screen.
Lets hope they do a better job than Samsung did (as in that the matte finish doesnt rub off after a few weeks of usage...).

As far as those renders go I dont believe Apple would sign off somthing that looks that bad. Its like they tried to copy the Pixel camera bump but gave up half way along....

I'm still on my 13Pro. I would like to change back to a Pro Max but really, the only thing I would like is USB C otherwise this is still more than enough phone for me.

It seemed once I stopped doing a yearly upgrade, just one year was enough to break the cycle of me feeling like I just had to have the latest one. That and I love paying £0 for my phone.

Latest rumomers are the backwards charging. I personally would find handy as when my airpods case dies but the headphones are charged it doesnt have that little charge to connect them which I think is a massive design flaw!

Saying that perfectly happy to keep my 15 pro maxs for a few more years as I dont see any "Must have" Changes

I think the folding phones are a con tbh. They are a solution looking for a problem. I would be amazed to see Apple get into this market unless they can change it. As a phone they are too heavy and while they look great I dont see the use case. A Pro Max phone is perfectly good for most things on the go and the iPad mini picks up the slack when you get there, or the iPad itself. Maybe, just maybe, a foldable phone with an absolutely massive battery would be a thing if you were travelling and only wanted to take one device but I think the phone, tablet, laptop market is already being cannibalised enough without Apple wanting to encourage it even more.

Have you used one for any significant period of time?

Likewise a Z-flip format phone is a ladies best friend. Mrs Sk8 has a standard pro and she can’t sit down if she has the phone in a trowser pocket.

Some of this is false, the fold 7 is 12g lighter than the iPhone pro max. Some people don't want to carry multiple devices, each to their own but foldable phones aren't a "con"

Apple will get into the foldable market, purely because the release of the fold 7 will force them to. They're losing market share. Some people just don't want to admit that apple are stagnant currently. The iPhone design hasn't changed in years because they've played safe.

The Fold looks perfect for me as an eBook reader and phone in one.

How long has it been since the first foldable phone came out? Was it 2019?

People have been saying since then that Apple will release one, because they ‘have to’, in order to compete. It’s now six years later and there’s still no sign of anything foldable from Apple, not any credible rumours (don’t even mention that fool Gurman), and nothing potentially in the supply chain.

It’s rubbish, they don’t ‘have to’. Foldables are still an expensive niche. It’s clever tech, but they’re still fragile, still have a visible crease and are still bonkers expensive.

The iPhone design hasn't changed in years because they've played safe.
Or perhaps it’s because it works and there’s no point in changing something just for the sake of change. *shrug*

You could compare it to the forums, over 20 years later and we’ve barely changed :D

Don’t apple like to sit behind the scenes until the tech has evolved enough, and then release something that trumps everything else? I think there are too many caveats where foldables currently are.

Yes, if an ‘iFold’ was not consistently lasting for 6 years plus, it would be a major PR disaster for Apple.

Not so much for Samsung, certainly not 4-5 years ago.

Of all the people I know who have had the early folding phones, all of them died prematurely. The screens and hinges are major failure point and Apple know this.

Part of the reason they are so expensive is the failure rate and RMA replacements. Someone has to pay for this at the end of the day.

Picked up a new 15 earlier in the year and suspect, like the 7 it replaced, I’ll be running until it quits/I break it/the Apps I need are no longer support by the last iOS the 15 gets.

I’m in a spot. Currently have a 13 mini. It does everything I need - but the battery is poor like 75% life poor.

I’ll be watching the keynote, I like a small phone though - so seems crazy to spend 700 - 1000 for a new phone….when I could just get a new battery for £65 and be done for another couple of years until small phones become popular again - I do like the look of the orange though….

If that's all you need, just do that. £85 to get one from Apple.

Getting Apple to do it is the way to go. Don’t use one of those third party nonsense. They use to be worth while doing it on your own but not any more it’s just not worth the hassle and stress and you’ll end up causing more damage than good.

I can’t decide whether or not to get the max this year. I got use to it pretty quickly last year but I do miss the extra battery life!
