Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

I didn't realise Palace were rich enough to miss out on £35mil + wage costs for 1 more year of service.... what is Guehi going to make of this?
Sounds like the manager has kicked up a fuss so maybe they were worried he would walk if the let Guehi go with no replacement.

Not getting Guehi is a blow, especially as we had no plan B, all we can do now is try and hold the defence together and go for him again in January
I expect we'll do alright. He's the konate replacement anyway, 15-20 mill in january instead of 35 now.

We will surely go back in Jan possibly but by then palace will get even less.

Parish said they can’t afford to lose players on a free so regardless of palace manager kick off it’s not good for them long term and PSR

I think Guehi will be totally professional but inside he’ll be furious. But I do think there will be a cut price deal in January for him, so that Palace do get at least some money for him and I thoroughly expect it to be Liverpool, but he could just wait out his contract and say “**** you” to Palace.

Apparently Guehi had agreed terms in July and thought he was going all summer after Palace got a replacement.

Now with todays fiasco Palace next season will have no Guehi, no 35m and probably no Glasner

Plus you have to hope he doesn't pick up a bad before Jan/July or his dream move to a bigger club might not happen at all

Unlikely I think. For 15m-20m then it is worth keeping Guehi until the end of season. As I mentioned earlier, I think he will sign with a continental side in Jan anyway.

I personally feel Guehi is better than Konate so its disappointing he isn't coming now.

Can see other clubs coming in for him in the summer now so might be hard to get him again, unless he says well LFC were the ones that wanted me so I'm still picking them.
Na, not having Guehi ahead of Ibou and ultimately if the club thought he was going to be a first choice then the deal would have been done weeks ago rather than haggling over £5m until deadline day.

As for other clubs coming in, the talk all summer has been he was set on us and it's difficult to see who might come in that would change that moving forwards.

I don't know much about prize money, and money for getting into various European competitions, but Guehi could be the difference between Palace getting into Europe again, or (less likely) relegated, in which case that probably covers the cost.

There's also the footballing and commercial angle. Clubs aren't just businesses - if Palace sold him without a replacement that could be hugely damaging.

Glasner has vetoed it, but if amorim gets the boot glasner will be off to man utd and he won't give 2 ***** about palace. Kinda silly they shot themselves in the foot losing 35m - I also doubt he'll be off anywhere apart from Liverpool. Time will tell I suppose

I'm not sure Palace have the finances to make those sorts of gambles. The most likely outcome for Palace, both with or without Guehi is they finish 16th-9th neither getting relegated or qualifying for Europe. And tbf Steve Parish made it crystal clear that Palace can't really afford to lose Guehi on a free. It's clear that from a direct financial point of view, the sensible decision was to cash in.

By all accounts the decision not to sell has come 100% from Glasner though, with some stories suggesting he possibly even threatened to quit if the sale went through. And tbf to Palace, Glasner's their most valuable employee and keeping him is far more important and impactful on their results than Guehi.

Palace were happy to sell but Liverpool only put an offer in 48hrs before the window closed. Palace can't really afford to let a player like Guehi go without a replacement. We also can't really afford to sign a replacement "just in case"

The whole thing could have been resolved to everyone's satisfaction if Liverpool hadn't left things so late.

Glasner's been going about getting replacements in before guehi can leave for weeks? Seems to me that its palace that haven't resolved their situation so guehi is the one that gets 'screwed over'. Should have taken the Isak/Wissa route. Apparently we told you guys we wanted him the day after the community shield, we've obviously bid today to see if we can get it over the line despite glasner saying signings needed.

Nothing to do with Liverpool being late, Palace have known all summer we wanted him and Guehi wanted to go. We put the first bid in which was rejected and waited patiently until Palace got a replacement which seemed to be the main reason for not selling as the second bid wasn't much different to the first. Nothing happened their end for weeks so Liverpool put another bid in.
Liverpool just didn't wake up 48hrs ago thinking lets bid for Guehi

Palace don't have the money to buy major players in case a bid comes in. Liverpool didn't put a bid in until the last second so Palace didn't have the funds available to replace Guehi ahead of this.

Liverpool wanted to get Guehi on the cheap and it didn't pay off for them. It isn't the end of the world and as a Palace fan I'm happy we get to keep Guehi a bit longer.
