Listening to a podcast with JT Mollner as a guest and he mentioned they're making this movie.

Probably my favourite Stephen King book, I know it won't live up to the images in my head, but please let it be good.

I really hope they do this one justice, it's been decades since I read the novella but the memory is still so strong that I've never needed to re-read it. They are making a PROPER version of the Running Man too with Edgar Wright directing, so looking forward to that too.

I’ve been waiting for this for about 40 years since I read the book and the trailer looks excellent. I’m glad they dropped the speed to 3MPH, 4MPH in the book was too fast.

Well.

I thought they were doing a relatively decent job.

Until the ending was completely different to the book.

Not impressed.

Pretty much this.. it was ok, but they moved too far away from the book for me.. unsure why as the book story is very very good..

I was interested in this, but read the killings are done off screen and instead we get monologues about death and feelings? Also they changed the ending significantly - for the worse?

If people are down voting it here, i'll give it a miss.

Looking forward to watching this even if they have changed the story - I haven't read it in over 40 years so can't remember the details, just that it was one of the best King stories of them all.

Killings are very much done on screen, if that's what you want..

I wouldn't say the ending is worse, just different, same as the characters are very different from the book.. which then leads to the ending being different..

The film taken as a thing in it's own right is ok, i'd say a 6 maybe 7 out of 10.. however if you want the story from the book in film format.. then i'd say it's a bit dissapointing.. so 4 out of ten maybe..

I was looking forward to this as I read the book about 30 years ago and loved it but I always thought the ending was a bit weird anyway.

As far as 10 year old me was concerned, the main character and another guy (can't really remember who he was now) got to the end and the other guy lets out a scream and out of nowhere randomly drops dead.

Not sure if that's how it actually ended, but that's what I have stuck in my head. :)

King movies have a horrible record of being converted to film, he's always been of the "they pay me not to care" attitude when it comes to accepting options on his books (and more power to him). The handful of decent films based on his books stand out in stark contrast to the masses of mediocre or downright dire takes.

I remember really liking The Long Walk book, but I don't remember it well enough to be able to pick up any changes anyway. I'll give it a watch if I get the chance.

Not Stephen King but I was reminded of this and The Running Man (one of the terrible film versions!) by Chain Gang All Stars which is well worth a read if you too liked the King/Bachman books.
