Upgrade or Full Rebuild? Seeking Advice on My Next PC Move

Hello guys just a little update so far.

I spoke to my wife and we discussed that I should look to build my daughter a gaming pc for Xmas. I should just need a nice cool looking case that will fit my components she doesn’t do pink so thinking a nice white set up. I have an old hiper X 850w which will hopefully do the trick for her new one.

Any suggestions on a case appreciated.

So that frees me up to continue with a new build. For myself which is good news for me.

So far I have purchased a 5070TI and bagged a 9800 X3D yesterday. I will look to add some fast DDR5 just before Xmas later in the year.

I’m struggling on what I should go for on a motherboard I don’t have a budget for it I just need a full size ATX as I do have the room for it in my case. Prob look to get some fast DDR5 in there later in the year. Even though I don’t have a budget wouldn’t wanna be spending £250-£300. Rather look to spend around £150 just needs to suit my new components.

I don’t need WiFi as I have a wired connection.
for a case for you daughter look at the white lian li v100. it's goldfish style so front and side glass....what it does have is a little removable bit on the front for your daughter to place a figure/toy/whatever at the front. apart from the display area, it's a decent budget case anyway with 4 fans included..provoked prawn below has case with some bits in front..better than me trying to explain (just he's using fans that cost more than the case)

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £73.98 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Great suggestion love this case and the figurine area is a nice touch.

It might be a tad big but tbh it’s only a few mill on ones I’ve been looking at

looking at ASRock B850 PRO RS.

any opinions on this board?

Heard some stuff on reddit they dont play ball with the 9800X3d cpu
I think the Gigabyte X870 EAGLE WIFI7 for £175 is a decent option you will gain usb4 which mite be useful to have in the future but does it fit your colour scheme.

As for the Asrock rs its a decent enough board but people are avoiding Asrock boards for the issue you mentioned although a bios update has supposedly sorted it but Theres no point risking it however small the risk.

also considering a Asus Prime x870-p board

Not looked into the X870 chipset boards but found one for £189.99 whoch not much difference to the ASrock board also.

either board will also be adding Corsair Vengeance RGB Grey 96GB 6000MHz DDR5

Any opinions on these boards please?

There are compromises with the lower priced x870 motherboards so it's best to read reviews to find out limitations.

The Asus Prime is a bit of a mixed bag but still a decent option at that price point , WiFi r view version.

would you say the Gigabyte X870 EAGLE WIFI7 is a better board £175 is a good price

would it suit Corsair Vengeance RGB Grey 96GB 6000MHz DDR5 and the 9800X3D

I wouldn't say it's a better board but it's has its pluses, grey which will suit your ram and WiFi which has Bluetooth and is a back up solution.

If I had to pick one it would be the Gigabyte for the above reasons but read reviews and hopefully others will chip in .

You also don't need x870. A b850 board is fine.
What is your budget?
What have you bought already?
What are you using the computer for?

It's gone from a cheap upgrade to some monster that has deviated from the original brief.

Why do you need 96gb? That's well overkill if just for gaming

Tbh i was looking at 64gig but i found this deal today as i really wanted some RGB (Yes i need to grow up) but its £175 for the kit i thought was a very good price

only using it for gaming.

Mate i do this every bloody time.

currently i only have a 9800X3D and a 5070 TI.

i was hoping to bag the mobo and ram for £300 quid.

I felt the ram i found for £175 for 96gig was a fantastic price so leaves me a little short on the mobo. but could budget a little more for the right one mobo maybe £150.

i'm all for reusing parts, but not that hiper psu lol

(my current psu that i'm using in my main rig is 12 years old, so i do actually practice what i preach lol)

Going back to this subject Tamzzy.

I still need a PSU for my daughters build, i have found a refurbished COrsair RMx 1000x for £69.99 from a popular parts supplier (2year warranty)

Do you think mine is still more than suffice anyways? (850rmx) i could have picked up that for myself and she could reuse mine as i need one anyways.

Ideally id have prefered a white one for her build but could manage with the black

Finally settled on a B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 motherboard and CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30

Watched a lot of videos yesterday evening the ram i was going for was a little slower and 96gig was way over kill for sure

i'm assuming you bought the crucial ddr5 5600mhz set. it's not that bad and x3d chips don't suffer as much performance penalty with slower ram than their non-x3d counterparts.
however, if it's just for gaming, 32gb is sufficient and you'd be better off with 32gb of faster ram than 96gb of slower ram
for the psu, as with all refurbished parts, your mileage will vary, but for the price, it seems a good deal

CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30

was the ram i went for bud. Every vid i watched suggested the 32gb of CL30 6000mhz
