Hi guys it’s been nearly over 10 years since I built my first and only gaming pc. I’m an interior architect and work with autodesk 3ds max corona renderer. I’ve been told this utilises cpu for renders but wanted to get some advice on a build you would recommend for my work. I have a budget of around £1500.

Thanks in advance. Appreciate the help

Do you happen to know where some benchmarks could be found?

Tomshardware have Corona 1.3 in the rendering section of their CPU review and a 3ds max part in their GPU review, but it is not exactly comprehensive for making a purchase decision.

I’ve seen some benchmarks but not sure which combination to go with

If you can suggest the cpu and gpu which work well, we could give you an idea.

For a £1500 budget, you could fit a 5070 Ti, but if you're mainly CPU for your workloads then that might not be the best idea. The upcoming Super versions are supposed to have more VRAM too, which is worth waiting for (if you can).

265K (for CPU) is reasonably priced at the moment and performs pretty well for multithreaded work.

You might want to ask on the Corona h/w forum (even if it's not super-active): https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?board=32.0

(URL contains filter limited to 32 cores)
It seems Corona scales lineally with cores (a 16 core CPU will be twice as fast an 8 core) so basically you need the most cores you can afford (and ideally a 16 core).

It seems that Ryzen 9 9950X offers better perf/£ compared to 9950X3DX

Consider that you're going to have all cores running flat-out for hours (and possibly overnight) so you're going to need top of the line cooling - probably water cooling.

From reading around, it looks like you need 32GB min with "64GB now standard".

Unfortunately I suspect £1500 is going to be a bit tight and it's unclear if a system within that budget will meet your requirements for work.
