tbh. the story on the ship itself (which we've seen over 1 hour of) is almost a film in it's own right and actually better than some of the Alien sequels.

That should have been the first episode. What's the point, you saw the result- but not the introduction to the characters.

Wow what an episode, it felt like a movie in itself. A couple of questions
The Orb Alien was almost trying to warn the Chibuzo when the insect Alien got free?
Also what a flimsy way to secure the Aliens in the glass containers with a dodgy top. Was it because Chibuzo was careless with the top?

Exactly. Kept telling myself whilst watching that this literally could be a film. It was brilliantly done.
Surprise, surprise stick to the ship where it actually looks like an Alien film, where the decent actors are and you get a good episode. Some of the crew wouldn’t look out of place as crew on spaceball one especially the scientist.

I viewed it more as it distracting her so the insect could infect her water without being caught. The orb/eye alien seems to be the smartest of the bunch by far, and extremely opportunistic. I don't think it's necessarily friendly toward the other species as much as views them as a means to an end.
That said, by far the best episode thus far, it's actually giving me Foundation vibes in that it almost feels like two shows made by totally different people that have been glued together.
They are on a mission for decades, you aren't going to get the elite signing up for that. Space bums, dregs of society and those with no lives back home - they take what they can get.Pretty great episode.
Not sure how people with such character flaws get sent out on super important multi-decade space missions, and the Xenomorph still looks like ass, but very enjoyable ep nonetheless
I took it as the eye bug was trying to warn the Doc, then the eye bug used the engineer to protect the Captain (didn't kill her) and then attacked the alien. I thought it was protecting the crew for whatever reason. But yes, potentially it was just distracting the Doc, but that doesn't explain why it protected the Captain or attacked the alien - guess we'll find out later.
Mega episode and maybe they should have given us this first and 2nd episode was the crash onto Earth.

echo what everyone else has said, fantastic episode, time flew and I honestly thought I was watching a film. This is the tone I was hoping for throughout the show that has been lacking.

I'm actually wondering if it came out a bit messed up due to the host dying not long after it was infected. The facehuggers keep their victims alive for a reason surely? It would explain the erratic murder-hobo behaviour planet-side too.
It also seemed to attract the alien with that weird call when the electric gun was pointed at it by the cyborg, but gave me the impression electricity was a weakness for it (aka the eyeball alien). I'm on the fence regarding how it attacked the xenomorph, partially wondered if it was trying to find a more powerful host to take over but couldn't bite through the carapace, and even if it managed to get through would it be immune to the acid? Interested in seeing how things go anyway!

As I mentioned earlier in the thread , things like this have to be like this. Imagine if they containment procedures had been as good as you and I would make them, the aliens wouldnt break free, nobody would die, entire series would last 20mins

Sounds like I'm not the only one that thinks the alien looks wrong. It's just looks like a guy in an alien suit. In the films, weren't they done with animatronics, to give them a more creature like movement?

In Alien and Aliens they were people in suits, other than the Queen.
They just filmed it in a way to try and avoid it looking naff.
