Did you receive the Alert on the 7th September 2025?

Jeezus, why are so many people against this?

If it saves one life, it's a good thing.
Quoting myself because I still feel exactly the same.

If these alerts are going to be used, they'll be used to notify people of local issues. I live near the coast, if there's chance of a flood, I want to know about it, not just be sitting here unaware of the water that's about to rush into my house.

There's no Big Brother or anything like that, the system doesn't send it to specific numbers, it just does this:

No, it’s simply sent to all devices connected to the network. It doesn’t matter whether you’re using a UK SIM card or not. It’s a broadcast to all connected devices. It doesn’t know your phone number at all.

It's the modern equivalent of air raid sirens, some of which were repurposed (and are still in use) for local warnings after WW2.

In full agreement with everything that you've said to be honest!

I'd hazard a guess, that these people also thought 5G was giving them cancer/covid?

I spent a lot of time in Richmond Virgina and they use these for missing children, it really helps there as they are sent to the location they were last seen, and in kidnapping cases the sooner the child is found the better the outcome.

It's absolutely bonkers, isn't it? How do people even come up with this stuff. My theory (and I blame a lot of the modern day issues on it) is the internet. It lets these crazy conspiracy theories spread, often in an echo chamber. It may be nostalgia but I don't remember the internet being this way before all of the general masses started using it, perhaps it's just a reflection of the average intelligence level and lack of critical thinking that goes on in the world. I also think Covid led to conspiracy theories spreading like wildfire and it's the same group of people that have a fundamental distrust of the state.

It doesn't help when the national press publish instructions on how to opt out. What's the matter with these people?

I see we have people voting already, I assume those who voted 'no' have opted out, I'd love to know why.

And someone has voted 'yes', days before the alert has even been sent out. I guess there's no excuse for stupidity

My work put an email out on how to opt out, seems to be a push on to inform people who are living with violent partners and have secret phones that they might want to turn off.

I didn't opt out, just never got the warning.

*Shrugs*

Yay got it this time.

For some reason though the message didn't have my device's system font. It looked not quite right.
