Just a quick browse, but it doesn't look like there's anything super improved over Dolby Vision? Especially if you have an OLED already? I did see there's lots of optimisations for display tech that doesn't have per pixel lighting like OLED however, so that'll be a boost for other displays out there.

Was there anything particularly important that I missed out on from my quick browse that I really should go look deeper into?

Sounds like they want to bring back "soap opera effect" and some AI gimmicks to alter brightness for some that complain the images are too dark.

More here on it and explained more.

Sounds like Dolby is running out of new gimmicks and new ways to charge new licence fees. I like Dolby Vision and think this version 2 sounds silly to me, but we will see once available I guess.

I have TCL C845 with Dolby Vision IQ for 2 years now, absolutely loved watched movies with Dolby Vision. Looked like there no difference with Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Vision 2 so I guessed Dolby Vision IQ rebranded as Dolby Vision 2? I have to wait and see for reviews.

Yes this is the perfect example of it being a mess, but again it depends on what seat of the argument you sit on. Some people want the same experience as the cinema and something most people don't understand about cinema projection is what is used is 2.6 gamma and therefore 48 nits in SDR cinemas and the Dolby HDR cinemas use 108 nits for HDR projection. Of course this is under cinema perfect conditions and trying to do that at home in bright rooms or rooms with light leakage or reflective areas and surfaces all affects the image brightness and the black levels and colour volume etc.

Reality they have been mastering 4K UHD disks to 4000 nits for a while and really they never reach that and never even reach 1000 nits, it became a who has the larger number means better but that is not always the case, 1000 nits done right at home is blinding, 4000 nits and these new TVs that go into 10,000+ nits is just silly to me, also there is a lot of home issues that affect the image as said, the environment is the most important and the equipment used and is it all set up correctly, as many complain images are too dark or crushed and when I see they are using same TVs as me and I don't see that problem I realise they have setup their TVs and connecting equipment incorrectly and sometimes have the HDMI spec set to limited not full colour range for example or have the players 4K disks setup again not right and their AV Amp in the chain also set to limited or some other range, it's not as plug and play as some think and in some cases these settings needed are hidden under strange key presses or buttons must be held a certain way to get to these hidden settings as especially AV amps at the start of HDR would set limited HDMI output to make sure the user even gets a picture as some TVs would flip when set to full range HDMI and so on.

I think HDR and 4K native has been the biggest improvement video fans have seen and have to say Dolby Vision has been really good and then HDR 10+. If you are watching HDR 4K content from streaming well all bets are off as even a 1080P Bluray beats the fake 4K HDR streaming, want real experience 4K Disks and a player that can do HDR 10/10+ and Dolby Vision is the only way to really enjoy it, and a good TV with Dolby Vision and AVR with Dolby Vision support and ATMOS. Can't beat it. You have to experience it correctly to judge the difference, some people are still happy with DVD quality 480P.. so depends on you and how good your vision and hearing is and the size of your TV, bigger than 50" 4K will shine and 75" and up and it really shines, 8K only shines to me on 100"+ TVs from content I have seen and anything smaller 4K is more than good enough at the distance most people sit away from their TVs.

Sounds like an organised cash grab rather than meaningful progress unfortunately.

Most people don’t have equipment that even makes the most of Dolby Vision content. This shouldn’t be used as a measure of quality or improvement of presentation I suppose. It depends on other factors much more.

I’ll reserve final judgement once I see it.

I am one of those people that struggles with judder so if we can raise the waterline of image processing that would be good.

Googled found CE Critic explained the difference with Dolby Vision 2 and has features table to compare with Dolby Vision IQ and high end Dolby Vision 2 Max.

Interesting, I will wait until youtube tech reviewers such as HDTVTest test Dolby Vision 2 features and image quality to compare with Dolby Vision IQ.

I just hope the G6 has hdmi 2.2 and Dolby vision 2. I really want to upgrade from my 7 year old C9 but even 2025 models just don't have enough new features to justify it

The real way to do this is to have the studio remaster in VRR.

Doing it like this you rely on the tv manufacturers smoothing, and Dolby just control a tap.

Kinda like allowing Dolby to control a contrast slider - they have no idea on the output - and that can be variable!

VRR remasters.

DV on streaming isn't the best anyway, and not sure they'll integrate into 4k Discs... this could be one of those... we just don't need tech's now... if someone needs to upgrade, TV, Amp or whatever, nahhhh not gonna happen. For me, literally not needed and I'm coming from a 4k Sony Projector in cinema room and a LG 86" DV TV in living room and this holds zero interest.

I do find it amusing it's like they're bored at Dolby and think hold on we've not released we need to stay relevant so lets does this BEFORE the rest of the indutry is even ready... it's a bit like that 8k thing... did the world need it?> NOPE
