EV general discussion

Thought you could just any volvo dealer for services
You must be thinking of Polestar, not X-Peng.

To be honest there were far more service X-Peng service centres than I was expecting! I'll have to take more notice while I'm driving around because I don't recall ever having seen one.
Im not pro or anti EV, I like petrols as much as EV. Diesels i hate with a passion, purely because of the smell and in the inherent unreliable nature of recent diesel.

What annoys me about the whole debate is the hate of EV's, the socials really bring out some real nastiness in people. No doubt theres some self righteous EV'ers aswell, but the hate seems to have become political as much as brexit.
Unfortunately tribalism is hard coded into some people and a proportion of those people go all in on it. How else can you justify people getting all bent out of shape on a Saturday because the multi millionaires dressed in blue kicked a bag of wind into a net more times than the multi millionaires dressed in red.

If it isn't football it's politics, if it isn't politics it's religion, if it isn't religion it's what fuels your car... its endless and mindless in equal measure.

The downside is you need to own a Dacia Spring - for £9k you could get a nice Zoe on a 22 plate and 40kwh Leaf's are dropping into £9k range now also. Sure the Dacia is newer but its not a nice car at all.

That was my quandry getting the Ioniq, i could just get a brand spanker of something like a spring for around 10k or get a slightly used Ioniq for under 10k which is loads more comfortable and goes a lot further.

But i guess you should never compare new with 2nd hand cars as the numbers will always be in favor of the older car.

For 9k if you just want totally trouble free cheap motoring there'd be a LOT of worse places put your money than the Dacia.

I guess it’s ok if you want the performance of a snail. It’s a terrible car and isn’t suited to anything outside 50mph zones. You can’t charge it fast either

Nope - gone in blind. To be fair I have driven my wife's MG4 a fair bit so know how EVs feel and I did not test drive my 530e before buying (Cinch special).

I do about 40 miles a day round trip to work and back and mainly potter around town. I've decided I do not need anything too fancy, or with amazing steering or whatnot.

Good range, fast enough, plenty of boot space and good enough infotainment - it ticks my boxes. The reviews I have read put this betwen between a 6 and 8/10 with main draw backs being a fiddly screen. I'm comfortable with that though so not really a draw back.
Cool I’m tempted to do the same. It’s more than I need tbf was looking at R5 but this thing is £100 cheaper for much more car.

Any indication on delivery time? Was it a stock car or order

I'm a big fan of Dacia and it is no surprise that they are doing extremely well with the no frills Sandero, Duster, Jogger and Bigster. They offer exactly what people need and are actually pretty decent motors.

The Spring however is a rebadge of a Renault made specifically for the Indian market which itself is originally based on an ICE city car. It is a double whammy of red flags from the off and really is a pretty terrible car by modern standards.

Don't get me wrong, it beats taking the bus or cycling when it is chucking it down with rain but in modern car terms there isn't far to fall. As you've proven, the used market is the place to go with £9k and I personally think you've picked up an incredible car that will trump a new Dacia for trouble free cheap motoring.

Yeah ive been really impressed with the efficiency so far, only done a couple of journeys so far bit they've all been around the 5.5 to 6 mi/kwh which seems really good considering my commute to work is a 60 mile round trip of dual carriageway and A roads.

It's showing about 180ish miles on a full charge after i reset everything i could after getting it, it does seem to go further than the range suggests at the moment, for example when i did a 60 mile round trip i only lost about 47 miles from the indicted range, i guess after enough driving the GOM will sort itself out to reflect how I'm driving?

The paddles are a really nice feature, can drive it mostly just on them which is fun for now, might get old after a bit but we'll have to see.

The GoM on Hyundai / Kia models tends to reflect the recent driving style - thus if the 180 miles its currently showing is based on an average of say 4m/kWh then it will rise if you are consistently over this value. :)

Or to put it another way, it shows a higher GoM value after I have driven vs when my wife drives...

The paddles are such a nice (and optional) feature to have. you can go all the way through on the left paddle to get i-pedal which is the Hyundai/Kia name for One pedal drive whilst holding the right paddle puts it in "Auto" mode which increases and decreases regen based on the current traffic situation (kind of like Adaptive Cruise). I tend to flick between 1/2 and 0 regen in the Ionic 5 as I love the coasting ability. :)

Yeah i didn't realise i could hold the paddle to come to a stop until this morning, i need to have a play with it on the way home later.

Be interesting to see where the range evens out after a few weeks of me driving it then

Unfortunately their older models don't allow you to go to full one-pedal drive without holding the left paddle.

I've found my efficiency has increased quite significantly (i.e. ~20%) since changing from using max regen, to instead using 0 regen + auto mode

Shows as in stock online but they’ve not given me an indication yet. Website says typically 6 to 8 weeks.

Confirmed my driving licence details today so appears to be progressing.

Looking at my leasing company this is cheaper than the Peugeot 308! Not quite sure how the lease price was calculated but I’m not going to complain

Ah I didn't know that about the earlier models (I can't remember if my Kona had that specific setting or not now I think about it).

rear screen arrived and installed today. took about 30mins to install, and looks good if i may say so :)
definitely the right choice to have opted for the smaller 7 inch screen as it fits the centre console perfectly with no underhang compared to the 8-9 inch screens

That looks really smart!
Haha yes it does indeed. Surprising how adding a rear screen smartens up the rear of the car and makes it look 2025 rather than a car from the 2010s.

Another major bonus is that the screen has a SIM card for 4g and can act as a wireless hotspot so I can connect the car to the hotspot. No need to pay £10/MTH for premium connectivity

BMW IX3 neue klasse livestream starts any time now:

Much more interesting - like the colour:

Ix3 50 108kWh net
470BHP and 0-60 in 4.9
400 miles of realistic range.
Can charge peak at 400Kw on DC and 10-80% charge would be 21 mins.

But don't you miss out on the live traffic updates? Though am I right in thinking your second screen you installed above the wheel has android auto/CarPlay so maybe not a huge deal to be missing it! Oh, but it does miss out on sentry mode which I kinda want. Especially with the Elon-Hate boners.

I did consider just using my phone as a hotspot as I have unlimited data but I'll just use the premium connectivity

oh i'm not too sure about that. currently in my free month's trial of premium connectivity, so i'll find out soon enough
