Alien TV series (Alien Earth) : 2025

Ep 5... well it was nice to get a break from the boy prodigy and the Peter Pan club but I'm not entirely sure a whole episode needed to be dedicated to the back story and an episode which would have better served as the season/story opener.

Some of the detail seemed at odds with existing Alien lore (again). The research vessel was returning after a voyage lasting decades (did they say 63 years), yet in Alien, Ripley was looking forward to getting home to see her daughter and after the stop on LV426 the crew were disgruntled that the diversion meant a low fuel consumption journey back to Earth taking 10 months. In Aliens, Hicks stated they could expect a rescue mission to arrive two weeks after being declared overdue, albeit that probably from an outpost not the Sol system.

The tech in AE looks to be pretty much the same as Nostromo and the Sulaco as regards FTL travel.

And yes, the crew on the research ship really were the dumbest smart scientists known to humanity. Using poorly designed and fragile containment for organisms even the most idiotic person could see were unknown and highly dangerous. Pratting around during the XO's briefing.

The main difference here seems to be that in Alien/Aliens the ships were going from Earth to Planet A, whereas the ship in Alien Earth was on a 60 year mission which was a "deep space safari" to collect alien species, so we have no way of knowing how many planets or even how many star systems were involved, could well be that the 60 year mission involved visiting dozens of star systems and dozens and dozens of planets, it wasnt a we'll go to this one planet and pick up all these aliens from the same planet kind of thing

I am enjoying the show, the last episode was great. With regards to the ship travel time, either it went a lot further than any other vessel or the engine tech improved over the 60 years it was gone.

The Nostromo actually left earth in the year 2120, surely there will be an Easter egg somewhere linking the films.

My on the spot prediction was that the daughter of ‘cyborg man’ turns out to be one of the ‘child androids’… and that we’ve been shown what she looked like in his memory as a decoy; she would have now had a body swap and look completely different.

… buuuut I don’t think that works out with timings, as I think it said the daughter died at 18 in a fire.

Maybe that stuff will come back in some form, let’s see!

His daughter died about 50 years ago, he got notification on year 8 of their journey.

Yes, as I mentioned, the timings don’t work. And it’s not the same company anyway.

Still, he was simply ‘told’ that his family died in those circumstances. I anticipate it might come back as some sort of conflict for him since he is so on ‘Team Weyland’.

I have my issues with 5 but im trying not to dive into inconsistencys too much. I am enjoying it anyway, may not be the best but its a good new take on it
