Hollow Knight: Silksong (Releases Today!)

I'm guessing it's too difficult for me then :p No difficulty levels?

I found the ori games tricky, is this harder?
No difficulty levels, although I've just seen someone's released a mod that cuts the damage enemies do to you in half :p

If you found the ori games tricky then honestly I can't in any good faith recommend you play this one unless you're just grabbing it on Gamepass out of curiosity. It's leagues ahead in difficulty and it's only getting worse as I get further in the game.

Has anyone found any way to increase damage output yet? Is there an equivalent to the nailsmith anywhere? (Might be best to pop answer in spoilers.)

This runs great on legion go s. Only a couple of hours in and enjoying it so far. Just got the map by farming currency. Nice that it is available almost immediately.

HK was absolutely stellar and while the atmosphere, art style, OST and general sound effects are just as fantastic as ever, I can't help but shake that Silksong is not only not a improvement in gameplay but a step backwards? I just have a few too many gripes with it to say it's deserving of its lengthy dev cycle:
  1. The downstrike/pogo input is indefensively bad given how much the game relies on it for room traversal. Why is it not a single input on Triangle instead of the Needolin?
  2. Run backs - the industry has evolved past the "run back is part of the boss" and I'm fed up of long, tricky jumping puzzles just to get back to the boss.
  3. Rosary grinding. I'm not losing any and not wasting any, but I can still barely afford benches and travelling? Having to intentionally farm these is annoying.
  4. Secrets feel very unrewarding. How many secrets are just some shell shards, rosary beads or something equally "who cares"?
  5. Bell stations are frustratingly placed. There's a line between "the game made me travel back through this area and look at this secret I missed!" and "this is very tedious, how many times do I have to run through the entirely of the Deep Docks or Greymoor?". Silksong has definitely passed that line.
Oddly enough, I don't mind that near enough everything deals 2 damage despite that being the most common complaint I've seen online. It's probably awful for a player new to these sorts of games, but I don't have a problem.

It certainly has a few frustrating game design elements. Besides the overall difficulty.

I doubt I'll be playing this too long before getting frustrated. It even took me multiple attempts to beat that first boss, called moss mother I think?

I just wish it had an easier skill setting for people who just don't have the time or patience to get good enough. I love this sort of game for the puzzles and exploration rather than the punishing combat.
