£500 to upgrade from 2080 super ??

I have about £500 to upgrade my gpu from a 2080super. I keep running out of VRAM whilst playing MSFS24. Im probably looking at ebay for best bang for buck. I have a Ryzen 7 3700X + 32 GB RAM

its been a few years since I did an upgrade and the GPU designation is so confusing

What are you trying to achieve with the upgrade? Are you having issues with hitting high frame rates or running at higher resolutions? :-)

Is it just the VRAM?

How so? Nvidia haven't changed since the 2000 series, that I'm aware of. You'd really want at least a 4070, to make it worthwhile, but perhaps better waiting for the rumoured 5070 Super with 18GB of VRAM, if VRAM is the primary issue for you.

Im struggling with MSFS 24. I get about 30FPS max with pretty low settings. I just keep getting a VRAM error and stuttering when the sim hits 8gb of VRAM. 8GB seems to be the absolute minimum The Radeon cards like the Rx 7900 seem to get 16 or 20 Gb of VRAM for about the same price as I would get from a 4070.

I'm in the same boat and the best bang/buck seems to be a 9070 xt but obviously thats £99 more. how about a 9060?

It is also very CPU limited. Maybe get a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and an RX9060XT 16GB?

In the big scheme of things and considering price to performance on the current selection, worth ponying up that extra 99 quid.

If it was 200+ quid price difference then maybe something to consider.

But not here. If the OP is prepared to front five hundred quid anyway, it's a no brainer.

Agreed

Selling the 2080 makes it easier around £175 but it's also handy to have a back up GPU.

I'd be tempted to buy a 960 2GB for 20 quid on the second hand market, test it out and if it works, then flog the 2080 while it still has decent value.

I upgraded from a 3700X 16gb ram and a 2070S to a 9800x3d 32GB ram and a 9700XT. Monster upgrade. Love it.

OP, definitely just wait another month or 2 and upgrade to a 9070XT, you'll kick yourself otherwise that you didn't spend the extra.
Then when funds allow again, chuck a 5700X3D in

That will make for a hell of a 1440P upgrade and last you a few years easily

Thankyou everyone who has suggested things. Im going to have a look at those options. Does anyone know if my ROG Strix B450-F will work with a new CPU. Currently I have a 7 3700X. I know the BIOS is way out of date. I just checked and Im running the old 2019 one. I suppose I should update it !!

Yes your board will work with a 5700x3d if you upgrade the bios to the latest

Just update your BIOS mate, nothing to loose bar re-inputing your settings

- take pictures of them on your phone, if you've got anything fancy going on with fan curves etc.
