I'm not sure if this thread should go in General or the Home forum.

Basically I've hit a point where I really want to get away from people. I want to live in a small (one bed) house somewhere remote which is reasonably cheap (compared with Surrey). My only real requirements is good internet access and a shower. I've been looking at random places on Rightmove but I have no idea what I am looking for. Ideally it would be a detached with a substantial gap between houses so I don't need to worry about neighbours. I don't need a garden at all and as long as I can get food delivered I'd be happy.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

If you need any additional information then please let me know and I'll try and provide it.

Good internet, remote and cheap housing don't really go hand in hand... could you survive with the added latency of something like Starlink permanently?

Think about transport. Also old age...if you break your hip (or other medical issues) and you can't drive anymore will you be screwed? Personally I'd ensure shops are within walking distance (knowing old age in the future)

Also if it's in the middle of no where check gas/sewerage services, I know people with silage tanks and having to use oil tanks for their fuel source.

When you say good Internet, what does this mean?

I think Starlink would be fine after reading about it a bit more.

Good points. I'd rather not have a septic tank :D. Thank you. I'll do some research and see how it looks.

I live in Herefordshire. There is NO motorway here, it takes basically an hour before I get onto the motorway to either Cardiff, Birmingham or towards London.

I do have fibre though, even in some small villages you can get like it through BT. But do remember that the trains to London will take 3hours and cost you like £80, the roads are not the best but they make Strongbow and a lot of the Cider here.

Thank you. I don't drive so roads don't bother me so much and I don't travel by public transport much either.

Nantwich nice market town with villages around. Near Wales but not too close. About a hundred bow shots.

You will have to rely on supermarket and Amazon deliveries then. There is no Uber here, but with the city area you can get Just Eat/Deliveroo and we have all the big supermarkets.
