Hollow Knight: Silksong (Releases Today!)

I just wish it had an easier skill setting for people who just don't have the time or patience to get good enough. I love this sort of game for the puzzles and exploration rather than the punishing combat.
One of the best things about PC gaming is you can make your own difficulty levels.

Download the half damage mod and the mod that respawns you outside the room you died in and have at it.

Hell, I'm sure there's a cheat engine table out there for the game already that'll let you oneshot bosses and take no damage.

No shame in playing a single player game in a way that you find fun.

Picking up again today, just beat the last judge and got access to act 2. Have to say the last judge was a bit disappointing, I've seen a lot of comments on that boss online and well I was expecting more of a fight based on it. They only have 4 moves, it took a handful of tries to get the pattern down and then I just ripped them apart :(.

I've never played the original HK, is it a platformer? Is it a must play? are there any advantages to playing on PC over Switch?

Metroidvania with souls like features (Lose money when you die, have to run back to where you died and claim it, boss runbacks as you always spawn at your last saved point).

I would say it's a must play, the first one is great. PC gets mods and higher fps.

I found the Radiance extremely difficult on the Switch. Much easier on PC, not sure why (fps/latency/controller/something).

The first HK is great, well worth it. I feel silksong is bit tainted if you played HK a lot, I've only played silksong for 2 hours but a few things are a bit bothersome.

I'm sure it'll get better as I get into the meat of the game.

The run back was the worst part of that fight, 2 red conehead dudes placed in really awkward places to skip over them :( Boss got a lot easier when I
started only doing 2 hits per punish instead of 3, and realising the flame wheel in phase 2 shifts so you can't stand still.

A patch incoming addressing a lot of the (early game) difficulty along with some misc stuff. Without getting into detail, some enemies/bosses will have reduced damage and bench/travel costs reduced.

Seems very on point with the two most common issues I've seen touted around.

I always say if I can do something, anyone can. And I've got as far as Silken Barrens (or something similar) without pulling every single hair out of my head (a few still remain). So I wouldn't touch the damage dealt, just stop the double damage nonsense. And yes, put benches right next to boss battles. But I guess they're only going to reduce the rosary cost to unlock them.

Had about 50 hours on HK all those years ago, a few days ago I have restarted HK to get my muscle memory up to scratch before trying Silksong. Wondering how much that muscle memory will transfer into Silksong ? I have read that Silksong is much harder than HK.

I hope that's optional (balance changes).

I haven't had any trouble, I don't want to play a nerfed version of the game because people have skill issues. Optional toggle, no issues, but don't force everyone to play an easier version.

I bought it from humble so I got a drm free version as well, I will download that later and can switch over if Steam saves are compatible, does mean going without the bug fixes though.

If you haven't had any trouble then balance adjustments won't make a difference to you, so what's the issue?
Or is it just a chance to say "look at me! Look at me! I'm good at computer games"

I don't recall the original having difficulty settings but yes a toggle could suit everyone

Nothing to do with saying "look at me". I find the game enjoyable with the current settings, I find the challenge acceptable, I would like to carry on playing it with the current balance, what's wrong with that?

Nothing, but bemoaning "skill issues" is a really obnoxious way of trying to get the point across.
They aren't touching the mid or late game stuff (yet). Clearly they aren't just making the changes for ***** and giggles, must be some data that is informing the decision and the Devs recognise certain things weren't balanced, you might just be in a minority who "hasn't had any trouble" with it so far.
Just think though, now you'll be able to say you beat x pre-nerf!

I think the devs are more worried about the lost revenue from people quitting the game early and claiming a refund or leaving negative reviews.

These are the only two difficulty related changes:

- Slight difficulty reduction in early game bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter.
- Reduction in damage from Sandcarvers.

I've never played or heard much about the previous game. This one seems to be getting lots of praise.

How is it?

Shelving the game for now. Just got to the part in act 2 where you're sent to 3 different locations to progress the main story. Went back to Act 1 to tie up some loose ends but I'm finding the zones too tedious to constantly navigate through, you're basically doing the entire zone again every time you traverse it, your metroidvania unlocks don't really seem to help speed it up or make it less of a chore.

The final straw was trying to do the
where you have to take the item from Bellhart to Mergwin/the Gourmand without having the food decay and you can't fast travel. You have to pass through Shellwood, Blasted Steps and navigate through half of the Choral Chambers while on a time limit, and getting hit reduces the timer. Getting hit even once decays the time limit too much to achieve.
And it's just a huge frustration.

I planned to return to that Wish later and continue the main story for now, but even the journey to get back to the main story was long and tedious so I just closed the game rather than travel through 2 entire zones all over again because the travel systems are just so frustratingly located.

I'd stick it out to a likely "normal ending" and sod all the side stuff, but I have a suspicion I'm not even close to the end.
