Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

No point in carrying on with the Onana project. He has been living off that Champions League final where Pep lauded him for his performance. Something along the lines of 'it was like playing against 11 outfield players'

The warning signs were there even before he put on a United Shirt. For a top level goal keeper, his handling left a lot to be desired. Consistently pushed ball's out into danger areas. That's down to poor decision making. His distribution with his feet was garbage and he never had control of his box. Then you get pundit's like Rio bigging him up along with his posse of YouTube sycophants Howson 'We have got a PROPPER Goalie on our hands'

He is off to the AFCON later in the year which would have meant Lammens and Bayindir fighting it out for number 1. Might as well bite the bullet now get them sorted
Yup, I remember looking at his stats before we bought him and wondering why we bought him.

Not so sure about this from Liverpool about not going for Guehi in January and waiting til next summer instead. Bit risky imo, with only really VVD and, an inconsistent Konate, as proper proven CBs, could be costly in the 2nd more difficult half of the season. Then again maybe Liverpool are bluffing and fully intend to go for Guehi in January and are just blowing smoke.

Don't worry. You can just put the man who seems to have everything in life into the role, and he'll do a good job. He's also taller than Guehi, so there's a good start.

Not to mention the longer it's left, the more likely Guehi's head is turned. When it's a free, more clubs will be in for him.

It's either a bargaining position to drive down the price in January and or they're not that bothered about Guehi.

The Guehi situation this summer does feel a bit like the period before Ivan Toney left Brentford and people were banging on about him as if he was Pele. Guehi's a decent PL CB but he's not a game changer by any stretch of the imagination. Had he not been homegrown and cheap I don't think we'd have even looked at him. After all we had been in for a CB for 2 summers before and there wasn't any links to him. I can't see a scenario where we offer anything like what we offered in the summer - if we can't get him at a knocked down price in January then I'm sure they'll be comfortable risking waiting until the summer. Our homegrown issues will probably have eased by then, opening up other European targets by then.

Are there any standout alternatives for you that we might take a look at? Sadly the standouts that I would have picked all moved last season or in the summer so arent realistically available now

I think we'd be really foolish to let Guehi go as we're in need of experienced defender and he has a lot of that, especially in the PL. If Konate decides he wants to leave at the end of the season, which I think he will and with VVD getting older and potentially more injury prone we're in a whole world of hurt in terms of our defence if that goes south.

Yes, the young talent we've bought (Leoni) does look good, but it's no guarantee and he's still learning, plus Guehi will be able to play for 5-6 years as he's what, 26? He might not be a VVD replacement (who is), but he's a damn good one, so I hope we're not foolish enough to let it slip.

I won't pretend to be a scout but I think we discussed this earlier in the summer, I don't think the club saw Guehi as a standout option. If they did then they'd have signed him. I think they saw an opportunity to get a cheap, versatile and homegrown player that will de-risk signing a younger CB. There's still a need for that sort of player moving forwards but maybe they don't need to be homegrown anymore.

Tbf there's a lot up in the air at the moment with Ibou's contract, not knowing how Leoni will settle and Gomez's long term future. Potentially we'll be in for 2 more CB's and I'm sure they'd still go for Guehi but I don't think missing out on him would really concern the club or at least not to the point where they'll overpay to make sure they get him. From the first links with him I always questioned his profile and what we've looked at from CB's ever since the stattos started running things - every CB we've signed or even been seriously linked with has been massive. Signing a short CB would be quite a change from that and also make the side as a whole pretty short and susceptible at set-plays.

The 16m of addons in the Wirtz deal come into play if we win either the cl/pl 4 times. I'd be more than happy to have us end up paying 116 if that's the case :D
