The big 4-oh incoming so time for a bucket list holiday. We are normally pretty savvy at putting a holiday together but for something like this we are thinking it’s better to use a professional agent?

We visited trail finders and got a quote holiday looks ok but they had a good few additions and bolt ones that jumped the price and would like a second opinion / quote to make sure it’s ballpark - any suggestions on planning booking?
Suggestions on people to use?
We are thinking Botswana

Anything specific we should do things to see?

My brother just booked their safari through Travel Bag. How long you going for?

Think my brother ended up with 5 day in Tanzania ( safari ) then 5 days in Zanzibar 5* all inc beach hotel. Just under 9k.

Hope that helps.

That’s a really keen price we are trying to swallow the £17k pill.

Ohh wait - was that just for him?

We are looking at 2 weeks with roughly the same 3-5 day safari and then other s’African adventures

I don't know all the details but pretty sure that was for both of them.

17k is a freaking big pill :D

As per the other safari thread on this page, I did 3 days Tanzania and 5 in a Zanzibar beach hotel. Climbed Kilimanjaro in the week prior to that. Went with a firm called Kandoo and they were excellent, would definitely recommend. They took care of everything - all meals (on the safari), transfers and accommodation.
Don't trust the hotel kettle to kill the bacteria in the tap water in Zanzibar would be my hot tip, unless you want to completely lose 24 hours of your life. Very unpleasant.

A long time ago we went to Kenya, one week on safari and one on the beach near Mombasa. We went with one of the more up market firms so stayed in some posh lodges. All in all an unforgettable experience.

Sounds great - do you remember who the firm was?

We're doing 3 nights safari in Kenya (all inclusive) & 6 nights in Mauritius (half board).
It was £11.5k for 2. Went through a travel agent but they used a trade only operator called Lusso.

Could have got more days for a bit less going to SA instead of Kenya but this looked more special and both places are top rated.
Could do it cheaper again doing safari & coast in the same country (SA, Tanzania or Kenya).

BIg variability in prices & quality so it's hard to judge on what you've said. I don't know how Botswana compares but I think you could get high quality places for a decent bit less. Accommodation is only a small part though.

If you want to do SA, it’s typically 1k a piece for a return flight (direct) and you have two options to fly in and out from.

Johannesburg for Kruger National Park; can travel between several different parks for different experiences. Cape Town for the beach, wine farms, food, etc. but can also do game drives that side. Could comfortably do a relatively high-end 2 week experience for 3-5k pp but that’ll obviously differ based on individual expectation.
