As per the title I think that a 7900xt is within my budget now on used market as an upgrade path.

Just decided to stick on AM4 replacing my failing x370 with an x570 to go with my 5700x3D so now looking to stretch the legs of this platform as much as possible in my 350-400 GPU budget space

Basically, has anyone done anything similar and was it a good jump over the 7800xt at 3440x1440?

I guess a side question is if the price is right could a GRE be worth it too?

Thanks

Ben

The 7800XT is about 12% slower than a 6950XT and the 7900XT is about 12% faster than that, so it's certainly a jump up but at what cost after you sell your old card?

Hoping to have to find around £150 but have to see what happens. Feels like quite the extra punch for that money....

What is the 7900xt going for because quite honestly you would be better getting a 9070 for around £530 or maybe even the upcoming gre with 16gb

Having jumped from a 7900GRE to a 9070XT I would consider if possible jumping to RDNA 4 if you can. Possibly hold out a few more months as the FSR4 feature set and improved raytracing is worth it in my opinion. The 7800XT is a good card to hold onto for the time being.
Currently looking at making any jump in the new year (most likely a new year day treat!) I think in the end, pretty much based on what you are saying tbh.

RDNA4 seems like a potentially sensible path with more lifecycle in it. I had my eye on the 9070xt from release day but they are just out of my price range. I guess even a factory OC 9070 non xt is going to be a quick card

Possibly looking a bit early but I do love doing research :D

They may come down in price with the advent of Nvidia super refresh AMD potentially and refresh. The non XT can be overclocked very well and even a bios flash bring it close to the XT. The FSR redstone release will add even more features to RDNA 4

Cheers all, you have all cost me money, but in a way I just can't be angry about :D :D

9070 and a bit of extra saving it is :)

As has already been said, the 7800xt is still going strong and is a great card. Will do me a for bit longer

What about BGrade if you were originally considering used? There's a 9070 Hellhound there (£590!) but you could make an offer on it, also some 5070s where the price is cheaper but I'm not sure what margins they're running on so you might get less off the smaller price but more of the more expensive one (?!)
