USB-C is definitely a flawed port physically, you have a huge male end of the connector going into a port which in most modern phones/laptops etc are not exactly blessed with a huge amount of room to keep them properly secure. There's countless issues documented not only with Dell/HP laptops, but also with MacBooks too.
Personally, I couldn't care less what port my phone has as long as I can plug it in and fast charge as and when required. USB-C for me has come in very useful on my iPad, where I can download Plex media using a USB to 2.5 GbE adaptor and get that speed from my NAS, rather than doing it over Wi-Fi. I can see it being handy for similar use cases with phones for pro users/photographers etc, or for people who are moving large files around. But for the vast majority of iPhone users Lightning (and slow USB-C) is perfectly fine.
