Hey guys,

I had a pre build that’s going back and building one myself. I game at 1440p medium/high settings and wonder if the 5070 will be good enough for those settings.

This is for a mixture of game types.

At 1440P I'd want 16GB VRAM personally so would go for a RX9070. Is decently faster at 1440P and the extra VRAM will be useful in it's lifetime (it already is in a good number of titles at 1440P).

A 5070 is good enough, but ~£500 for 12GB is not. I'd go with a 9070 XT or 5070 Ti, unless tightly constrained on budget.

Cheapest 5070Ti in stock is £719.99 vs the cheapest 9070XT in stock is £578.99. Given that in the latest driver FSR4 is now unlocked for all FSR3.1 games as well (so around 100 titles) it has to be the 9070XT and pocket that £141 to use towards another part of your build. For example, that money would pretty much cover off a new ATX3.1 850-1000W PSU. :)

EDIT: Realised just now you said 5070 not Ti. Damn skim reading when people keep mentioning Ti. I'll leave my post as it still has relevance.

Thanks for the input guys, decided I’m going to run the vanilla 5070 for a few months, recoup some cash and then upgrade to (possibly) a 50 series Super or equivalent..

Thanks, but tbh man, I dont like AMD GPU / drivers, I don’t use RT etc.. but DLSS potentially.

I’m sure at 1440p medium/ high settings the 5070ti will be fine.

If you're building a new system and are out of touch with current tech, I would highly recommend making a thread here detailing your overall budget:

There's actually a template to make things go as smoothly as possible which is stickied in that forum section too:

I know what it's like being away from PC tech for awhile as I have been in the past, and given everything moves at lightspeed it's really worth leaning on fellow enthusiasts from the get go regarding the full system over jumping back in head first.

As for AMD GPU drivers, this nails my point home as they're currently and have been for most of this year much better than Nvidia's. Nvidia has been an absolute travesty from a consumer software standpoint for going on 12 months with their drivers and while they are improving there are still ongoing issues.
